A popular subgenre of horror is telling stories in a series or an anthology. Join us as we talk about some of our favorite horror anthologies: Beyond Belief, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, and Yamishibai. Some things we talk about in this episode are: the line between reality and fiction, white vs. non-white families, creepy kids TV shows, and redemption in horror stories.

Horror and comedy are two very different film genres. But no matter how different these two genres can be, filmmakers still try to tell stories that exist in this intersection. In this episode we talk about the bait and switch of Cabin in the Woods and the hilariously funny (yet still creepy and tragic) Hong Kong-Singaporean horror comedy, The Eye 10.

The majority of horror films have evolved from "jump scares, gore, nudity, and characters existing for the sake of killing them off" to "horror that symbolizes key moments in a story and characters with complex stories and personalities who deal with traumatic and horrifying memories or experiences." In this episode, we talk about two films that do this well: The Babadook and A Quiet Place.

We discuss the themes of skepticism, sexism (although we didn't really name it), and classism in Last Summer and satire, and a connection to Of Mice and Men in Scream.
