I Think I Like You

The over-therapized nature of social media + how it’s effing with our expectations of life and relationships | Ep 97

Listen Later

Are you easily absorbed by therapeutic claims on social media? Do you read a post and then think...

  • I think I have a disorganized attachment style
  • I think the person I'm dating is love bombing me
  • I think my boss is a narcissist

Perhaps there's truth to all these claims. But in my opinion, we're caught up in an era where the information we're being fed — and the ways our brains are processing it — isn't always helping us. Isn't always allowing us to see clearly. I believe it's distorting our understanding of people and experiences in the dating processes, and limiting our capacity for fulfillment in relationships.

This episode will resonate with anyone who:

  • Finds themselves overanalyzing individuals they're dating, thinking they can "catch" something to figure this person out and avoid hurt
  • Is quick to label people as narcissists, relationships as toxic, etc
  • Is highly focused on things like fixing their attachment style, dating in the right way, controlling the outcome of a relationship — but is distant from their emotional experience
  • Gets lost in the specifics of a person — if they have this job, if they look this way — they're safe, they're good to date, they won't hurt me
