The Overdue Homework Podcast

Kevin Flynn is digitized into a computer and discovers that the inside of a computer is apparently just a bunch of dudes in glowing pajamas trying to kill each other. Forced into gladiatorial games by a fascist operating system, Flynn teams up with Tron, a program who takes his job of protecting the system considerably more seriously than anyone should. It’s basically an 80s arcade game, a corporate espionage thriller, and a giant neon fever dream crammed into one movie and somehow convinced Disney to pay for it.

After his brother is crippled by Muay Thai fighter Tong Po, Kurt is looking for revenge, despite having apparently never heard of the concept of “leaving well enough alone.” He trains with Master Xian, learns to kick things really hard, and eventually faces Tong Po in a fight involving ropes, glass, and several decisions I would personally describe as “bad.” Somehow Kurt wins, proving that with enough rage and absolutely no regard for his own safety, he can punch you in your entire stomach.

The summer of sequels continues with The NeverEnding Story 2 from 1991

Bastian gets sucked back into Fantasia, because apparently one traumatizing adventure wasn’t enough. This time he has to stop the Nothing......er....emmmm.............Stop the Emptiness from destroying everything again, while learning the important lesson that unlimited wishes are probably a terrible idea when you’re an emotionally unstable kid with no adult supervision. It’s a perfectly serviceable sequel that takes the magic and wonder of the original and replaces much of it with the unmistakable feeling that someone in a Hollywood office said, “The first one made money, right?”

In the end, Ace saves the day through a combination of dumb luck, unchecked chaos, and the kind of behavior that would get a normal person banned from multiple continents.
