ou did everything right — and the storm still came.

Right after the miracle of the five loaves, Jesus constrained His disciples to get into the boat and cross to the other side — and obedience sailed them straight into a tempest. In this message from our Faith series, Pastor Nana Boadum opens Matthew 14 and asks the question so many of us carry: if I'm following God, why is the wind against me?

Four anchors for the storm: faith gives you victory over your past — you don't have to fear that old failure will repeat itself. God is awake — while you're rowing at 3 a.m., Jesus is on the mountain interceding for you (Hebrews 7:25). Storms are not proof you've missed God — "in the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). And when the wind argues with the word, hold on to what God has said — then praise Him through it. Not denial: a higher truth.

Affliction may try to rise a second time (Nahum 1:9). But hear this: the season will end — and you will not.

When the Bad News Comes: Principles of Faith, Continued | Pastor Nana Boadum, PhD

The bad news came while Jairus was still waiting: "Your daughter is dead. Don't trouble the Teacher any further." And before doubt could land, Jesus turned and said the words that still hold: "Don't be afraid. Only believe."

In the finale of the Principles of Faith series, Pastor Nana walks through the end of Mark 5 — three principles for the hardest moment of the faith journey: when life goes from bad to worse, don't give up. Never agree with the enemy's report, because agreement is permission (Amos 3:3). And create the right environment for your faith — Jesus Himself cleared the room before the miracle. Then the detail everyone misses: "Give her something to eat." Do the natural to sustain the supernatural.

A synagogue ruler on his knees in public. A woman who spent twelve years and everything she had on every physician available — before she ever came to Jesus. Mark 5 puts these two side by side, and their faith worked exactly the same way.
