Progress is by far the key to happiness. First you must have a vision or a goal for each area of your life. You might have a goal for your health, fitness, finances, career or family. Once established, the key to being happy is seeing progress on that goal or vision. You can only do this by setting the goal or vision and then measuring the progress. You cannot manage what you cannot measure.
Your happiness is dependent on the progress made. Measure and manage, reset, adjust, and gauge where you are on this path. Its like shooting an arrow at the vision and then measuring where you are on that path.
Recently I struggled with trial planning and weight loss as I attempt to run a marathon. Reassessing, tweaking and measuring allowed me to break through frustration and resume progress. Which in turn made me happier with that area of my life.
