EMS providers every two years must submit an application for NREMT recertification. There are two ways you can maintain your national registry certification. The most common route is taking continuing medical education that is CAPCE accredited to gain your NREMT recertification. The second is taking the NREMT exam all over again.

Using online CAPCE accredited CE programs like the NREMT recertification program we offer at The Paramedic Coach you can complete your CE hours at your own pace on any device. The amount of hours you need to recertify differs by provider level. EMR providers need 16 hours, EMT providers need 40 hours, AEMT providers need 50 hours and paramedics need 60 hours of continuing medical education that is state EMS or CAPCE accredited.

The NREMT follows the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP Model) which breaks down your NREMT recertification hours into national component, local component, individual component hours we organize all the requirements for you at The Paramedic Coach.

Finally, I recommend strongly to any EMS providers to maintain their NREMT status as some jobs, promotions, contracts can require it. Also if you decide to move one day it makes EMS certification reciprocity much easier.

If you have a current state EMS certification and want to turn that into national registry (NREMT) certification here is how you do it! Many EMS providers will message me asking about this process usually it is because they are moving to another state or they're new role or job is requiring or asking they become NREMT certified.

The process is pretty similar between the levels of EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic it requires you to take CAPCE accredited continuing medical education programs and pass the national registry exam at your EMS provider level.

This video will show you how to get your NREMT certification back if it has lapsed. NREMT also calls this a re-entry pathway to certification meaning you had your NREMT in the past but now your NREMT has expired.

The first step in gaining your national registry certification back is completing CAPCE accredited CE which is the same hours as a full recertification program hours. The next step after that is passing the NREMT written (cognitive) examination. You will also need to verify your skills to begin to practice again as an EMT, AEMT or Paramedic. Today is July 1st, 2024 and the new national registry (NREMT) written exam is now live for advanced emts and paramedic candidates. In this concise video, I summarize all the updates from NREMT and what you need to know to prepare and pass the NREMT exam for ALS providers.

The NREMT exam is the exam all levels of EMS certification take after they complete and pass an approved educational program. Once the student passes NREMT, they then apply for their state license to practice and start applying for jobs as an EMT/Paramedic provider.

The national registry has four levels of examination, EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic, the new changes in this video are only for the AEMT and Paramedic level exams.

I had to report on yet another important EMS education update from NREMT. The NREMT psychomotor exams for ALS providers such as advanced EMT and Paramedic level exams are being discontinued starting July 1st, 2024.

I believe this is a good step in the right direction for our profession as one of the biggest complaints of NREMT candidates would be an inconsistent testing experience due to different types of proctors or testing centers. This will be especially helpful for those students who if failed had to previously travel to other locations (some time hours and hours away) for another attempt to pass.

Last year NREMT had removed the EMR and EMT psychomotor exams and now they have followed that up with removing the AEMT and Paramedic psychomotor exams. Now students at all levels will have their skills signed off by their class instructors and program directors.

Now every level of certification will have one cognitive examination as reported by NREMT, I never thought I would see the day!

The national registry of emergency medical technicians (NREMT) is the certification organization that allows all EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedics to become certified. Since NREMT has partnered up with the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) they have making a ton of changes to update their exams.

This is the 3rd update just in the last year from national registry (NREMT) that I have reported on here on the channel. From what I can see, scoring report wise this should be the final change but NREMT does have some changes coming soon to ALS certification exams which I will be reporting on very soon! I look forward to seeing you pass your NREMT exam soon.

After working with tens of thousands students with the goal of passing the NREMT exam, there are usually four main mistakes the student is making preparing for their NREMT exam. And the strategies I talk about here apply to every EMS certification level; EMR, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic.

The NREMT cognitive examination is broken up into five main categories: Airway, respiration and ventilation, cardiology and resuscitation, trauma, medical/OBGYN and EMS operations with 85% adult questions and 15% pediatric questions.

Too many students use resources that do not help them learn the way they think. If you are a visual learner watching videos may be a lot more helpful than reading chapters in your textbook. Another critical point is that practice questions have a place as an assessment tool but that is not studying content or making you smarter in terms of content. You should study content then assess yourself after studying the content sections.
