For some, “holiness” is associated with “holier-than-thou” living—an existence of perfection and constant worry about personal actions. Peter gives us a different view. For him, holiness has nothing to do with our own lives, our own sense of goodness. Today, we discover authentic holiness as we try to reclaim it for our own lives.

Jesus did many amazing things, but maybe nothing as risky as offering forgiveness to a woman caught in adultery. Jesus’ willingness to offer a new life to this one woman challenges our reluctance to offer grace to others. If there’s one story that can send out Outward Bound in significant ways, this is it.

Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth to remind them that God was greater than their differences. Not only that, but because God was greater than their differences, followers of Jesus were to be a part of the “ministry of reconciliation.” To help us understand what that means for us, we will welcome Rev. Dolphus Weary, founder of Mission Mississippi to share his understanding of the ministry of reconciliation.

As part of our summer Outward Bound series, we spoke with the founder of Mission Mississippi.

At age 75, Abram left everything he knew and set out on a new adventure. God sent him to a new land to be the father of a new nation. Abram didn't go empty-handed. He went with God's promise that he was blessed to be a blessing. What does it mean for us to claim that promise, to become a blessing?

We begin a new series with an old story--the call of an Old Testament prophet. Isaiah was well-educated and comfortably employed. He soon discovered that God's trajectory for his life would be beyond what he knew and did. Isaiah's humble response, "Here I am, send me" teaches us a lot of what it means to be Outward Bound.

Pentecost Sunday is a celebration 50 days after Easter. For most, it doesn’t quite have the appeal of Christmas or Easter (probably because it doesn’t involve a jolly guy in a red suit or bunny with eggs). But Pentecost is the day the Body of Christ was set free in the world. It was the day the promised “Advocate” was given to the Christians--a gift we continue to receive today. This Sunday we'll celebrate the hope and life of Pentecost.
