Since late 2018, Daily Gazette sportswriter Ken Schott has hosted “The Parting Schotts Podcast.” The podcast has focused on the sports world both locally and nationally. It has even talked about politics and entertainment.
Thursday marks the 500th episode of the podcast. For Schott, it has been a labor of love.”
“I feel like I’m back in my college radio days at York College of Pennsylvania’s WVYC,” said Schott, who is in his second stint with The Daily Gazette. “It’s been a fun ride with the podcast. I can’t believe the number of people I have interviewed for the podcast. To be able to host and produce the podcast has been a lot of fun. It’s a labor of love. I want to thank everyone who has listened to the podcast.”
Thursday’s podcast is jammed-pack with guests. Schott previews the Union men’s and women’s hockey weekend. For the men, he speaks with defenseman Nick Young, forward Parker Lindauer and goalie Brayden Gillespie. For the women, Schott talks to defenseman Stephanie Bourque and forwards Jill Willis and Maddie Leaney.
The Union and RPI women’s hockey teams will each have a player participating in next month’s Winter Olympics. Schott talks to Union goalie Monja Wagner, who will play for Switzerland, and RPI forward Nina Christof, who will play for Germany.
Former Gazette news reporter Jake Lahut, now a freelance political writer, hosted the first Gazette sports podcast. The Niskayuna native talks about the genesis of the podcast, and the two talk about the political climate in the United States.
Finally, ESPN Radio’s Freddie Coleman comes on to talk a variety of sports.
