In this episode, I’m exploring the deep roots of people-pleasing; how it forms and how it quietly disconnects us from our truth. I share my own story of people-pleasing, the ways I learned to prioritize others’ comfort over my own inner knowing, and what finally shifted when I realized that self-abandonment is not the same as love.
Drawing from the work of Gabor Maté and Caroline Myss, we look at people-pleasing through both a psychological and spiritual lens. We explore how attachment shapes this pattern, and how levels of consciousness influence the way we respond to conflict, approval, and responsibility. I introduce Caroline Myss’s idea of the “penthouse view”, a higher perspective where we observe our patterns with clarity rather than judgment, and how accessing this view changes everything.
We’ll talk about common signs you may be a people pleaser, real-life examples of how the pattern shows up, and why outgrowing it can feel uncomfortable, lonely, and deeply liberating all at once. We’ll also explore the truth that Earth is a school, and everyone we meet is a mirror, a messenger, or a mentor in disguise. Each moment, especially the ones that trigger or challenge us, carries a curriculum for our soul’s growth. When we stop labeling interactions as good or bad and instead ask, "What is this here to teach me?", we reclaim our power. This is how we evolve: not by avoiding discomfort, but by alchemizing it. Your life is a sacred classroom, and you are ready to graduate from the lesson of self-abandonment into the embodiment of self-respect.
