Mark Byrnes has spent most of his life in, on or around helicopters, both maintaining and flying them. At a very young age his father was killed in a helicopter accident, but this didn't stop him from pursuing his dream of one day becoming a pilot. Years later, unbelievably, his older brother was also killed in a helicopter accident and yet Mark continued his career motivated by both accidents to make the helicopter industry safer.

Sadly the aviation industry has now taken Marks livelihood but in a completely different way.

When I first met Corey Macdonald I liked him straight away, a Surfie looking dude with long blonde hair, a happy smile and wicked sense of humour.

When he said he was thinking of learning to fly I thought he wasn't the "typical" pilot type and maybe he was just day dreaming.

How wrong was I to judge!

He did lean to fly and recently added to his aviation adventures by flying a single engine TBM 850 aeroplane from Australia to Canada.

He says he is a man of few words.
