Welcome to the premiere of Mindset Matters, a brand new monthly series within the Period Recovery Movement Podcast.
When I was navigating my own recovery journey, I found myself wrestling with control, perfectionism, anxiety, and a terrifying fear of weight gain. I knew God had something to say about these struggles, but no matter where I looked, I couldn’t find anyone applying His truth specifically to Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA).
So, I made it my mission to compile everything He was teaching me. In this series, I am opening my personal journal to you.
In this first episode, we are tackling the hardest hurdle first: The fear of weight gain.
We are told to eat to recover, but the thought of the number on the scale rising can feel paralyzing. Today, we are bridging the gap between biological science and biblical truth to help you find freedom.

I’m sitting down at 32 weeks pregnant for an off-the-cuff chat about the unexpected lessons this season has brought me. Navigating pregnancy right on the heels of eating disorder and HA recovery hasn’t been easy, especially in a culture obsessed with “perfect” prenatal nutrition and bounce-back bodies. In this episode, I’m sharing 8 truths I’ve learned about letting go of control, embracing rest, and trusting the body God gave me.
Today I am sharing a talk I gave at our church’s recent women’s retreat. While it is not specifically about eating disorders or hypothalamic amenorrhea, it speaks to the heart of many of the struggles I faced in recovery and continue to work through today.
My prayer is that it would encourage you wherever you are at in your own journey. And if you think it may encourage a friend, I would love for you to share it with them.
Fun fact: The included picture is of me with my “svuh-t’ya.” A woman from our church who is from Russia told me that it describes the beautiful relationship between the mothers of spouses.
Have you ever claimed “perfectionism” as your greatest weakness in an interview, secretly proud of your discipline? You aren’t alone. But what if perfectionism isn’t a virtue, but actually a shield we use against shame? In this episode, we are digging into the exhaustion of trying to be flawless and why it ultimately hinders our walk with God.
This week, I thought we would do something different!
During my period recovery journey, there were days that no words could express the pain I was experiencing. I felt alone and misunderstood. Music became my refuge as I drove, journaled, and stress-cleaned the house. Many times, these songs would remind me of the truth of Scripture when the Bible felt like distant words on a page.
I compiled these songs into a playlist in hopes they may encourage you on your journey as well. In this podcast, I discuss 14 of the specific songs and how God used them during my recovery.
