Pet food in Germany is benefiting from the pet humanization trend, states Euromonitor research analyst Clarissa Nicklaus. Humanization means that pets are being seen as family members and are, therefore, treated to care that is above or at the same level as their human counterparts. As a result of this trend, demand for natural, functional food for pets is shaping the pet food market in Germany. Organic pet food, however, is performing rather flat due to strong demand for functional food.
