The high road is rarely the easy road—but it’s the road Jesus calls us to take. And we don’t have to take it alone.
It’s easy to choose the low road: doing what we want, protecting our pride, getting even, or sticking to our own plans. But Jesus calls us to something different—turn the other cheek, go the extra mile, give generously, love others, and put others before ourselves.
In Philippians 2, Paul points us to Jesus as the ultimate example of humility. Jesus willingly lowered Himself, giving His life for the sake of others. And then Paul tells us: *“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.”
Taking the high road doesn’t mean becoming a doormat or ignoring healthy boundaries. It means choosing humility over pride, others over self, and love over being right.
The high road may take us downward, but it also transforms us along the way—shaping us into people who look a little more like Jesus.
Low road: Self.
High road: Others.
The way of Jesus: Together.
The February Sermon Series “The You You Thought You Knew" based on Matthew 4 tackled common misconceptions we have about ourselves – whether that be things we were taught or things that the world wants us to believe about ourselves and each other. Rev. Mike Holly and Rev. Robert Mercer elaborate with Content Producer and Moderator Liz Dial and remind us that there is freedom that comes from seeing ourselves as God sees us—beloved, worthy, and created with purpose.
January's sermon series "The God You Thought You Knew" explored some common misconceptions about the character of God - He's not an angry judge; He's not an imperfect parent; He's not running a talent show; and he's not like a bad cop trying to get you. The series explained what Jesus says about god and talked about we can course-correct these negative perceptions to reveal a much more loving and caring God. Reverends Mike Holly and Robert Mercer talk about what inspired our pastoral team to take on this series and what misconceptions they personally had to overcome.
