The Buds dodge another music review episode like Spoderman might dodge the wrathful segmented tail of one Scorpion, in order to review the latest MCU/Sony Spidey endeavor SPIDER-MAN BRAND NEW DAY. They catch up on where they're at with the MCU at large and how Tom Holland's Spidey stacks up in the grand canon of live action Spoders. Then they dive deep into the movie, reviewing every little choice made by every little character. That's what you want from the Buds, and with great podcast reach comes great responsibility to do more podcasts!

In this episode, we make a triumphant return after being beaten down by scheduling conflicts and illness to deliver one of the longest jumbo-sized episodes of the show ever as we continue our summer spree of mashing up our dual love for roleplaying games and cinema. So join us as we tackle the chonky dragon in the room and look into the world's oldest (and some may say greatest) roleplaying game by checking out its recent box office failure, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, from 2023. Jason stands ready to hold them to task with many grievances that explain its failure to connect with audiences and turn a worthy profit, but opposing him is Dustin with much love for a faithful representation of the Forgotten Realms and an argument that this may be the most honest adaptation of a typical RPG session to ever exist. But before all that, we've got so many movies to dish on, including many recent theater releases and a marathon of the entire Evil Dead franchise in honor of the new entry. And so much more!

Today we sit down with Travis Hoffman to discuss 501st, Toy Collecting and all things Imperial Pilots.
Welcome to the very first installment of The Mad Ghoul Sessions, a new Mad Ghoul Radio series featuring long-form conversations with the filmmakers, musicians, writers, collectors, haunters and creative minds who shape the horror community and preserve its history.
In this first installment, I sit down with filmmaker, journalist, author, podcaster and Phantom Lightkeeper musician Justin Beahm.
Justin has spent his career digging beneath the surface of the films we love—preserving the voices of actors, filmmakers, effects artists and craftspeople through his work with Reverend Entertainment. We talk horror history, physical media, collecting, disappearing roadside attractions, Roadside Memories, and the responsibility that comes with documenting stories before they vanish.
Then the conversation moves somewhere much more personal.
Justin takes us inside the making of the new Phantom Lightkeeper album, Four Days at the Precipice. The record began during four isolated days at a remote cabin while he was experiencing a serious health condition. After returning home, undergoing emergency surgery and facing his own mortality, Justin went back to those recordings and finished one of the most personal works of his career.
The episode also opens with “Francesca Woodman’s Camera,” my favorite track from the new Phantom Lightkeeper album, Four Days at the Precipice—a haunted, slow-burning piece filled with atmosphere, distortion and more than a few textures that sent my Nine Inch Nails–obsessed brain into overdrive.
And don't worry, this isn’t a standard press interview. It’s two friends talking about horror, music, art, grief, survival, memory and the strange need some of us have to save the things we love before they disappear.
Turn down the lights.
Welcome to The Mad Ghoul Sessions.
