In this episode, Jason breaks his usual disdain for 90s cinema to put forth "one of the good ones" for discussion. So join us for a Kurt Russel starring stunt spectacle as we check out Jonathan Mostow's Breakdown from 1997. Jason highlights the many virtues of practical effects use on display. Dustin runs down the many connections to other films and potential inspirations in the chain of road movies turned abduction thrillers. But before all that, Jason hits the theater to weigh in on the latest entry in the Star Wars franchise, and Dustin rounds up a pair of disappointing re-watches. And so much more!

Season 03, Episode 11: Dead Air: Transmission from the Zombie Wasteland
The dead are back on the dial.
This episode of Mad Ghoul Radio crawls into Zombie Films Part 3 with another Mad Ghoul Macabre Mix, built from the rotting bones of undead cinema, apocalyptic dread, mall panic, graveyard tension, viral rage, black comedy, and late-night soundtrack weirdness.
We start in familiar cemetery soil, where the dead first learned to walk in American nightmares, then move through the blood-smeared evolution of the zombie film. From bleak remakes and modern outbreaks to pub-crawling survival plans, video game horror, and full-blown end-of-the-world infection panic, this mix follows the genre as it mutates.
You'll hear atmosphere, score cuts, undead audio debris, and enough graveyard energy to keep the basement lights flickering.
It’s tense, grimy, occasionally funny, and crawling with that special kind of soundtrack dread that only zombie movies know how to deliver.
Lock the doors.
Check the windows.
And whatever you do, don’t trust the guy who says it’s only a bite.

Last Saturday, the crew loaded up the van and hit the road for #JaysDay, an all-day toy hunting adventure through Des Moines with Elgn, John Tipton, Chris “Turnip” Simmons, and the family — including stops at all three Jay’s CD & Hobby locations in search of retro treasures, hidden gems, and questionable purchases we definitely didn’t need. Then, with Memorial Day setting the tone, Elgn and I take a more personal turn by sharing toys connected to some of our best memories… and a few not-so-great ones. From toy hunt highlights to nostalgia that hits a little deeper, this episode is packed with stories, laughs, collecting chaos, and memories that remind us why toys stick with us long after childhood.
We also spotlight Subatomic Vintage Toys during our Store Tour segment and talk about whether it’s a shop that everyone should visit someday.
