So far, I have lost fifty pounds. I am working toward a new goal by the time I reach a milestone birthday this July. In order to reach your highest potential in all areas of your life, you must be healthy. Good health gives you energy and confidence. I have my son to thank for enjoying the best health I have experienced in years.
Nothing is more stressful for a parent than to see their child struggle. On the other hand, nothing is more exciting for a parent than to see that child overcome and succeed.
Today I am celebrating a milestone for my son Nick. Lesa and I spent many years seeing him succeed as a High School and Collegiate athlete. Then we watched him struggle and overcome a battle with his health and weight issues after moving to California in 2007.
The title speaks volumes to all of us who are moving forward and setting big goals. Many times the logistics of how to accomplish our goals can be very simple, however, the execution may be difficult. Many times it is the mental part of the game that trips up, not the physical.
His debut book, Simple But Not Easy is not only the story of his struggle to overcome depression, health and weight issues but how he has sustained it for five years.
Nick completed his certification to become a personal trainer and created his own company, Mountain Health Management, to serve and help people achieve what he has accomplished.
Simple But Not Easy is his story and much more than that. As his story unfolds, you will find real life application for how you can overcome struggles and live life to the fullest.
Simple But Not Easy is available on Kindle at Amazon.com. I hope you will be inspired by this book and send one to a friend who could use some encouragement.
Have a great week!

What actions are required to take your sales to the next level? It will be different for everyone.
The variations can be due to experience, personality and training. Many of the people I work with have a firm grasp of the product or service they provide. They may have learned techniques from various sales books they have read. Or, they may have been provided a “sales in a can” method from their company that is supposed to work for every salesperson regardless of their personality and experience.
In most cases, this type of training results in a robotic, going through the motions approach and they fail to make a real connection with the customer. This is just one of the reasons some companies hire salespeople with a few years experience. Other companies hire young salespeople right out of college so they can train them in the selling style their company has adopted.
One of my coaching clients contacted me this week to give me some great news. He had increased his sales thirty three percent in 2012. He also dramatically increased his income well into six figures.
When we first met, he was doing well but he was not where he wanted to be. Through the coaching process, we discovered some areas that could be improved. He was experienced and knowledgeable of his product, however, many of our coaching sessions centered on how he related and connected to his clients.
He credited the following actions for his success:
Many lessons can be learned from this. Set big goals, bigger than you can believe, it’s not about you, take care of the customer after the sale and give credit to all the people who help you get it done. Lastly, when you are struggling, ask for help or hire a coach.
What is stopping you from your sales breakthrough?
Have a great week!

Friday evening, 20/20 presented Robin Roberts courageous journey to beat MDS and return as anchor of Good Morning America.
We watched as Robin gave us an inside look at her struggles through chemo, a bone marrow transplant and losing her mother. At one point during her conversation with Dianne Sawyer she mentions that she is an optimistic person and the more you exercise that optimistic muscle, the stronger it gets.
I am naturally optimistic and it has served me well in life and business. However, many people I meet tend to look at what can go wrong or when the other shoe will drop.
Lesa and I recently returned from speaking on the Wisdom Meets Passion Cruise with Dan and Joanne Miller, Rory and Amanda Vaden and a group of amazing people. It just so happens that we were at sea the same time the Carnival Triumph was crippled waiting on tugboats to bring it back to dry land.
There were concerns from friends that we were on that cruise ship and we were not. We did have a couple of people tell us that we should stay off cruise ships because you never know what will happen. These same people are constantly telling me to play it safe.
I respond to these people saying, “Maybe we should never do anything but sit at home and play it safe. Never go anywhere, never try anything new and never take a chance.”
What kind of life is that? The people that give me this advice have the fruit of this mentality reflected in the way they live. It is usually accompanied by a negative, woe is me attitude. One of these people followed up their concerns with an “I will never be able to afford a cruise anyway” comment.
I chose to take the chance and I was rewarded with time with great friends, making new friends, and sitting with Lesa on Magen’s Bay in St. Thomas.
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. ~ Helen Keller
Here are some ways you can exercise your Optimism:
1. Smile. Put on a happy face and you might be surprised when you get one back. A smile will also trigger positive thoughts in your brain.
2. Talk like an optimist. If you speak in a positive way, you will become more optimistic. Speak the results you want.
3. Count your blessings. There is always someone worse off that you. Be grateful for what you have.
4. Protect your mind. Don’t allow yourself to be influenced by depressing or negative thoughts. I quit watching the news years ago. I control what goes into my mind. Listen to your favorite music or something funny.
You can choose the way you think. Put on a smile and have a great week!

The customer entered the establishment and approached the sales counter. The employee behind the counter is thumbing through some paperwork.
Without raising her eyes to greet the customer she says, “We open at nine.”
The customer does not respond immediately. He simply raises his eyes to the clock mounted on the wall behind the employee and observes the time, eight fifty nine.
He finally says it, “It is eight fifty nine.”
She says, “We open at nine”.
The customer asks, “Are you willing to lose a sale over sixty seconds?”
By this time the clock has ticked past nine but the employee insists, “We open at nine.”
The customer leaves, the employee lost a sale. But, it does not stop there. Later that day the customer tells all of his Facebook and Twitter followers about his experience while leaving a complaint on the company’s website.
Customers have a long memory and they readily share their negative experiences to anyone who will listen.
There are many lessons to be learned from this story, however, I want to focus on one. Customers pay your wages. Period!
Regardless of how difficult it can be to work with certain customers, your business, job and sales career does not exist without customers. The success of your business will be determined by how well you serve those customers.
It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pays the wages. ~ Henry Ford
We are all in sales. Every person in an organization is responsible for the customer service so you should embrace it. The success of your business and job depends on it.
Have a great week!
