In this week’s episode Matt Way and I (David Fernandez) get things going by breaking down the Detroit Pistons collapse against the Atlanta Hawks. Even though this year is all about the TANK, watching the Pistons cough up a 17 point lead in the fourth quarter is still hard on the eyes.

One highlight from the game was Jerami Grant’s 32 point performance; which was somehow quiet yet destructive all at once - I’ll break down that concept further. A lowlight includes the Hawks’ bigs absolutely abusing Detroit’s front-court, more on that from Matt.

And, as the the title signals, we finally have a long-form discussion regarding Blake Griffin. How should Detroit utilize him moving forward? What does the future hold for Griffin? We’ll take a deeper dive on those questions.

In this week’s episode of Inside The Cylinder, David Fernandez and Matt Way break down Sekou Doumbouya’s minutes, or lack thereof. After a two game stretch where Doumbouya averaged just 5 minutes per game, he had a DNP-CD in their most recent game, this past Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Head Coach Dwane Casey has noted that Doumbouya hasn’t played because he’s been buried in the power forward rotation, but there’s been some instances where Griffin hasn’t played due to rest, and that hasn’t resulted in major minutes for the second year player from France. The situation is confusing, but at this point in the Pistons schedule, is it meaningful?

They were able to secure one win against the Celtics, but then dropped their last two to the Celtics and Bucks (the baseball series have begun!), we’ll talk about what we’ve noticed on the floor and why we’ve been pleasantly surprised, even as the losses continue to pile up.

Luckily for Detroit, it appears they’ve dodged a bullet with both Josh Jackson’s ankle and Killian Hayes’ hip injury, but Dwane Casey may have to manage how he goes about reintegrating them back into the line-up - there’s no need to rush them back into action when this team is destined for a bottom three finish this season. We’ll take a look at some possible solutions from a rotational standpoint.
