“Live Nation has reached a settlement with the Department of Justice in its high-stakes antitrust case less than a week after the trial began, according to three people familiar with the matter. The deal requires Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, to pay roughly $200 million in damages to participating states. The centerpiece of the agreement is expected to be structural changes to Live Nation’s ticketing business. Under the settlement, Ticketmaster will be required to open parts of its platform to rival ticketing companies, allowing third-party sellers such as SeatGeek or Eventbrite to list tickets directly through Ticketmaster’s technology. The deal also places new limits on the long-term exclusivity contracts Ticketmaster has historically used to lock venues into its system, cutting those agreements down to four years and allowing venues to allocate a portion of their tickets to competing platforms. “This will revolutionize the ticketing marketplace,” said one of the people who was granted anonymity to speak candidly. “These are innovative technological solutions to a very difficult problem with prying open the marketplace.” Live Nation did not immediately respond to a request for comment.” (Politico)

SONG OF THE WEEK: Converge “Bad Faith” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZv3ZbyZfoE
“With the announcement of Shinedown’s new single, album and tour, frontman Brent Smith did an interview with Rolling Stone and was asked about their decision to drop off Kid Rock’s “Rock The Country” festival tour. Originally Shinedown was set to play the Anderson, SC date, but they dropped off because they didn’t want to “participate in something we believe will create further division.” Shortly after, that entire date of the tour was canceled. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Smith further addressed the decision saying: “We saw infighting that we had never seen before, and for us, it was our job to diffuse it. There were certain people that were not happy about [pulling back.] I will say that there was an overwhelming amount of people that agreed with the decision.… You’re entitled to your opinion 1,000 percent in this country, and that’s one of the beautiful things about it.” (Rolling Stone)

SONG OF THE WEEK: Poppy “Eat The Hate” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S8F0bAPDNg
“For 30 goddamned years I have been screaming about all of this stuff and more, because I am a student of history, and for those who know history, the signs are crystal clear. For 30 goddamned years I have been screaming a warning— because it is the right thing to do, because I give a fuck, because I HAVE A VOICE," he shares. "I am almost 55 years old and while I have a very good life, I am living a split-screen existence. I can pay for my now-much-more-expensive health insurance without a second thought, I have more than enough money for groceries and rent and gas for my car and I never worry about being hassled by masked men every time I walk out my door because of my accent or the color of my skin or the thing between my legs (because rapists have posed as ICE agents in order to sexually assault women)… but everyday I wake up there is a cloud of doom that hangs over my aching head and heart, simply because I know my good life is merely a dream for so many," he continues.” (Loudwire)

SONG OF THE WEEK: Limberlost “Give It To Me (Redux)” https://limberlostmusic.com/give-it-to-me-redux
“You know, I liked them [Metallica]. If the friendship was restarted, it wouldn’t bother me. I would accept, and I think it would be nice to revisit some of those times. But I just think because there was a lot of hurt and misunderstanding around our time together that it would be difficult not to keep bringing up the past. I think what needs to happen is there needs to be a Megadeth/Metallica tour. Period. That would, I’m sure, make everything right. We could hang out. Spend time together. But I know they don’t really tour like we do. I mean, when we go out on tour, we play many, many shows.” (Revolver)
