When you think about God, what do you picture? Do you see a loving Father who welcomes you into His presence... or someone distant, stern, and perpetually disappointed with you? The answer matters more than you might realize, because how you see God will profoundly affect how you relate to Him.

In this episode we're going to open God's Word and ask a wonderfully important question: What is God really like? And I believe the answer will not only change the way you see Him... it may change the way you love Him.

From the very beginning, God's desire for us has always been deeply relational. He didn't create humanity simply so that we would follow a list of rules, perform certain religious duties, or acknowledge His existence from a distance. He created us to know Him. To walk with Him. To enjoy Him. To trust Him. To worship Him. And ultimately...to love Him.

You see this beautifully in the opening chapters of Genesis. Before sin entered the world, Adam and Eve enjoyed unhindered fellowship with their Creator. There was no shame. No hiding. No separation. They were created in the image of God and given the incredible privilege of living every moment in relationship with Him.

Think about that. Before there was a church building...before there was a worship service...before there was a Bible study...before there was any religious structure whatsoever...there was relationship. God with the people He created. That's what we were made for.

If our view of God is too small, our response to Him will be too small. If we think of God primarily in terms of what He can do for us, we'll approach Him primarily for what we can get from Him.

But when we begin seeing Him as Scripture reveals Him—as holy, sovereign, majestic, all-powerful, all-knowing, perfectly righteous, infinitely wise, and absolutely supreme—something begins changing inside us. We realize...He's God. And we're not.

That changes everything. It means God doesn't exist to fit into our plans. We exist for His purposes. God doesn't need to adjust His will to accommodate ours. We surrender our will to His. We don't evaluate His Word according to what seems reasonable or comfortable to us. We allow His Word to evaluate us.

When awe settles deeply into your heart, it begins changing the way you approach God. It changes the way you worship, the way you pray, the way you read His Word, and ultimately the way you live.

The Bible calls that reverence.    It’s vital we understand that reverence is more than admiration. It's more than respect. It's a heart that has become so captivated by the greatness of God that it gladly bows before Him. Not because it has to...but because it wants to.

Reverence is awe expressed through the way we live.

To stand in awe of God is to allow His greatness, His holiness, His wisdom, His power, and His love to settle deep within your heart until they begin changing the way you see everything else.

It's more than admiring God. It's more than appreciating His blessings. It's allowing the reality of who He is to reshape who you are. At its foundation, awe begins with seeing God clearly. The more clearly we see His majesty...His perfect holiness...His limitless power...His infinite wisdom...His unfailing faithfulness...the more our hearts naturally respond with reverence, humility, and wonder.
