In Philippians 4:8 we are instructed to keep our minds focused, or occupied on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. Since what we see has a direct impact on what we think, it only stands to reason that the things we see should also be true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. In the final analysis, anything you see that takes your love and focus away from God, from His Word, and from doing His will, doesn’t belong in your life.

In his assault on Eve’s mind, Satan used three subtle steps to deceive her into buying his lie. We saw in last week’s episode that Satan attacks your mind with lies to turn you against God’s will. 2 Corinthians 2:11 tells us that “We are not unaware of (Satan’s) schemes.” In other words, we already know his operating method. He’s been using the same tactics for centuries. That means you don’t have to go into battle against your spiritual foe ignorant of the tactics he’s going to use against you.

We saw in last week’s episode that Satan attacks your mind with lies to turn you against God’s will. Satan hates God. Therefore, to attack God, Satan choses to attack the one part of God’s creation that means the most to Him – YOU!

Satan knows that as a born-again believer you are God’s precious child. That is exactly why he’s unloading his arsenal upon you. Satan hates God more than anyone in the universe. Satan wants to hurt God more than anyone. Satan knows that God loves you more than anything. His surest way to hurt God is to attack the love of God’s heart—you.

Satan’s primary strategy in his war against God is to attack your mind. He knows that if he can impress your thinking, he can impact your living! So how do I protect my mind against his lies?

Job said, “I have not departed from the commands of (God’s) lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.” (Job 23:12) In last week’s podcast I said that we need to learn to delight in God’s Word. We need to say as David did, “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.” (Psalm 119:103)

The pressing question we have to address here is this: How do I get to that point? What must I do in order to experience true delight in God’s Word? How does a person learn to actually treasure God’s Word more than anything else?

James 1:25 says, “The man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:25)

Every time you sit in a Sunday service and listen to the sermon, every time you attend your Bible fellowship or Sunday School class and hear a lesson taught, every time you go to small group Bible study, every time you have your personal devotions or turn on the radio to hear your favorite preacher—every time—you are listening to the Word of God. Are God’s words “going in one ear and out the other”?

What you do with what the Holy Spirit reveals to you is critical at this point. If you are not applying to your life what God is showing you, then you are merely listening, and God says you are being deceived.
