A viral video of a Sikh influencer being kicked out of GoodLife Fitness for wearing a visible, multi-knife setup has split Canadians into two camps — those who say GoodLife violated the Charter, and those who back the employee's decision.

But there's already a legal precedent here. In the landmark 2006 Supreme Court of Canada case Multani v. Commission scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys, the Court ruled that an absolute ban on the kirpan violates freedom of religion — but it's not a blanket protection. The ruling set specific conditions: the kirpan must be concealed under clothing, securely sheathed, and fixed in place to prevent easy removal.

So did this influencer actually meet those conditions?

I sit down with lawyer Daniel Freiheit, founder of Lion Advocacy, to break down what the ruling actually says, how it applies here, and why the same law that concealed carry of a knife is a criminal offence for most Canadians. We also look at the reaction from lawyer Gurratan Singh — brother of Jagmeet Singh — and a second viral video involving the same influencer discussing the "Sant Sipahi" identity and the right to bear arms.

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms is reporting that some Canadians are being contacted at home by government officials — over social media posts made months, even years ago.

But there's a problem: Bill C-9 isn't retroactive. It only applies to conduct on or after July 18th, when the law came into force. So if these posts are old, why are people being contacted now?

Tonight I break down the JCCF's claim, what the actual law says about retroactivity, and look at two recent cases — a man visited by the RCMP over calls to burn government buildings, and a woman visited by Toronto police over an alleged threat against the Prime Minister — to ask the real question: is this Bill C-9, or are these Canadians being contacted because they broke laws that already existed?

Then we get into the trade war. Donald Trump just hit Canada with new 50% tariffs on nearly $20 billion in imports — everything from wine to hockey sticks to cement — while sparing energy, potash, critical minerals, and fish. Barry Neufeld, former Chilliwack school trustee, was found by the BC Human Rights Tribunal to have violated the Human Rights Code through his public statements opposing SOGI 1 2 3 — and ordered to pay damages estimated at $750,000. Now he's taking his case to the BC Supreme Court, arguing the Tribunal made 12 legal errors and that his statements were protected free speech, not discrimination.

Mark Carney admitted he learned from Donald Trump.

And while he claims not to fully subscribe to Trump's flooding the zone tactic, that is exactly what he has been doing.

In just 14 weeks, the Liberal government passed 21 bills through the House of Commons. That is 1.5 bills a week. And out of those 21 bills, 7 were expedited using time allocation motions — essentially forcing bills through Parliament with limited debate.

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, who has been an MP since 2011, called it the worst use of time allocation and omnibus bills she has ever seen. The Bloc, the NDP and the Conservatives all said the same thing.

But here is what nobody else is talking about.

Three of those rushed bills will fundamentally change how speech is handled in Canada.

Bill C-9 — The Combating Hate Act — criminalizes emotions and removes the good faith religious protection from the criminal code. It takes effect on July 18th.

Bill C-16 — The Protecting Victims Act — could make deliberately misgendering someone a criminal offence. Legal experts confirm the path to prison exists.

Bill C-22 — The Lawful Access Bill — forces Electronic Service Providers to store all of your metadata for up to one year without a warrant. And metadata is not even defined in the bill.

C-9 controls what you say. C-16 controls how you say it. C-22 lets the government monitor everything to make sure you comply.

This is not a coincidence. This is a strategy. And I will bet everything I own that when Parliament returns in September, Bill C-34 will be next.
