  • Batman By The Numbers: Best Bat Family Members

There’s arguably no superhero in existence that has been reimagined, redefined, or reinterpreted more than Batman.  No matter how many times he’s been rebooted, audiences are always willing to come back to Gotham City’s greatest defender.  With so much Bat content out there, there’s plenty to dissect, analyze, and of course, rank!  This podcast is dedicated to a surgical evaluation of Batman’s history, with a focus on ranking several topics in the world of Batman, among other classic Bat themes and characters.

Join host Daniel Cohen, Pop Break’s former Film Editor and Resident Bat-Maven, as he brings on several guests every month to share his passion for the one and only Dark Knight.  From Adam West to Robert Pattinson, no bat stone will be left unturned.  Bottom-line: If you’re a Batman fan, this is required listening.

In this episode, Daniel is joined once again by Podcast Editor Alex Marcus, and Pop Break TV Podcast contributor Michael T. Ford III for another superb and hotly contested rankings episode!

Before getting into the main topic though, the crew reminisce and pay tribute to one of the most important figures in the history of Batman, Kevin Conroy.  This podcast was recorded just a couple days after Conroy’s passing, so no doubt the crew wanted to give this iconic performer the honor he deserves.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving and being with our families, we honor Batman’s family for this month’s rankings!  That’s right, we’re ranking all of Batman’s allies in his never-ending fight against crime!  We look back at the movies, as we discuss, debate, and rank all the Alfreds, Robins, Batgirls, Gordons, Catwomen, Lucius Fox, and of course, the one and only, Chief O’Hara!

Who will be the highest ranked Alfred?  Do we spend an absurd amount of time debating whether or not John Blake is actually a Robin?  Will Dan’s dream of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice getting a not awful ranking finally be realized on this podcast?

If for nothing else, we can almost guarantee a podcast has never discussed the character of Alfred Pennyworth as much as we do here, as we sift through SIX different iterations of the character.  Long live the Burma speech!

            • Good Bye to All That: Married At First Sight - San Diego

Welcome to Good Bye to All That, ThePopBreak.com’s afterparty for our favorite shows. Whenever inspiration strikes, contributors from across The Pop Break family will be using this space to celebrate an endlessly exciting or painfully disappointing finale of some of the biggest and buzziest shows in the world of TV.

This week, Love McPherson and some of her Live Laugh & Lovey panelists are here to break down the entire Married At First Sight: San Diego finale and subsequent reunion specials.

Check out more below from Lovey about the episode and don’t forget to check back here Thursdays to see what the next season or series finale we’ll be highlighting!

It's a wrap for the contestants of Season 15! Tempers flared during decision day and at the cast reunion. Totally proving our theory that the experts have failed yet another group of hopefuls.

Kevin Fraser sits down with the couples, and we had to bear witness to Alexis and Justin arguing over the status of their relationship. It's painstakingly obvious that Stacia and Nate clearly have a lot of maturing to do. Mitch and Krysten were as cordial as one would expect. Miguel and Lindy will probably have a baby soon. Lastly, Morgan and Ben finally left the table on good terms.

This was a pretty good season because most of the couples were immersed in the experiment and were really in search of their person. But of course, there's always one in the bunch that sucks the air out of our TVs from week to week.

I'm still in favor of getting a whole new round of experts.

            • Bill vs. The MCU: Phase IV Part 4 - She-Hulk, Werewolf By Night, & Wakanda Forever

Hello and welcome to Bill vs the MCU! Each month your hosts Pop Break Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus and Pop Break Editor in Chief Bill Bodkin take another step on their ten month journey to rewatch the ENTIRE Marvel Studios-produced Marvel Cinematic Universe, typically focusing on three or four films from the first four phases of the MCU per episode, reminiscing about their first watches, reflecting on their latest viewings, and considering the wider multiverse ahead!

The reason this podcast came into existence is that our Editor-in-Chief has never finished the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So Alex is guiding him on his journey to actually finish the MCU over the next 12 months.

This month, we have reached the end of the line, as we close out our coverage of Phase IV by rewatching She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Werewolf By Night, and, at long last, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Give us a listen to hear about our thoughts on Marvel’s first ever Special Presentation and where we’d like them to go with this format moving forward, whether we think the fourth wall smashing sitcom experiment of She-Hulk was a smart one, and if director Ryan Coogler did the impossible by making a successful sequel to his 2018 sensation Black Panther.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Werewolf By Night are all available to stream on Disney+. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are available in theaters now.

            • The Anniversary Brothers TV Podcast: Death Note 15th Anniversary

Aaron and Josh are here to discuss Death Note for the 15th anniversary of its American debut.

Death Note is an anime based on the manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. It first premiered in Japan in 2006 and later in the U.S. on October 21, 2007 on Adult Swim. The 37th and final episode aired on July 6, 2008.

The series follows Light Yagami (Brad Swaile), a Japanese high schooler who finds a supernatural notebook that can kill people. Light tells the Shinigami Ryuk (Brian Drummond), the Death Note’s original owner, that he will kill criminals and become the God of the New World. Facing off against Light in a battle of wits is the world’s greatest detective, L (Alessandro Juliani).

Death Note garnered praise for its thrilling narrative, though it also drew criticism due to real life imitators. The series has been adapted into live action in Japan and the U.S.

Aaron and Josh talk about their initial exposure to Death Note and break down the plot, characters, and more.

For more anime, you can listen to Josh and Aaron chat about Spirited Away and the Dragon Ball franchise.

Death Note is streaming on Netflix.

            • TV Break: November 2022 - House of the Dragon & Rings of Power End, Henry Cavill Bolts, High School Stuns, Andor Makes The Leap, and The Peripheral Underperforms

Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.

Here’s the format of the show:

The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, and Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including Disney Plus’s Andor; HBOMAX’s House of the Dragon; Prime Video’s The Rings of Power; FreeVee’s High School, and FX’s Atlanta.

News Break – Alex, Bill, and Josh discuss the news that Henry Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth as the lead of Netflix’s The Witcher. The trio discuss why he may have made the move, what they think of Liam Hemsworth replacing him, what this could mean for DC and his role as Superman moving forward, and whether the news that James Gunn is now in charge of the DCU will have an impact on things to come.

Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, and Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. This month, Bill & Josh agree that Disney Plus won the month, thanks to the recent news that they will be the global home of the latest season of Doctor Who, in addition to well received originals like She-Hulk and Andor, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer dropping, and Elton John’s farewell concert special on the horizon. Meanwhile, Alex went against the grain by standing up for HBOMAX. Despite its parent company’s many bad headlines of late, he argued that the runaway success of House of the Dragon, the Success trailer, the White Lotus premiere, and all the recent DC news helped give it the edge. News of a new Chuck Lorre/Sebastian Maniscalo sitcom coming to the network certainly didn’t hurt either.

New Series Spotlight – Alex, Bill, and Josh review Prime Video’s The Peripheral, the latest sci fi series set in a future dystopia from producers Lisa Joy & Jonathan Nolan (Westworld). This series, created and showrun by Scott B. Smith (novelist and screenwriter of A Simple Plan) and based on the William Gibson novel of the same name, stars Chloe Grace Moretz & Jack Reynor as a brother/sister pair of VR gamers for hire in 2032 Appalachia who get caught up in a conspiracy thriller when a game they are hired to test out turns out to be more real than either could have imagined.
