Most the time as an elk hunter there is a mountain to climb if you want to get into some big elk. It can be a grind and exhausting. There can be obstacles along the way. God will use these challenges to grow us. Psalms 24:3-4 talks about ascending the mountain and how we need to have clean hands and a pure heart. It's not easy to do but thankfully with Jesus it's possible!
Hunting is a rush. It's something that can make us come alive as men. We put such much effort and discipline into chasing after these animals and we need to do the same with the most important mission of all. Pursuing Jesus and knowing God. There is no mission greater than that. Maybe that is why we love hunting so much. We get to experience a piece of God through enjoying His creation in the outdoors.
This is a story about when I was duck hunting with my Dad and brothers when I was about 10 years old or older and I was aiming my shotgun at "The Wing" also known as a robo duck these days. I thought I had my safety on but I didn't. I pulled the trigger and peppered that wing and nearly blew it apart. Sometimes in life we are aiming at the wrong thing. Whether that is sin, or pursuing goals for ourselves rather than to bring Jesus glory. So what are you aiming at?
Introduction to The Porch. It's not just about hunting and chasing after animals, it's the moments on The Porch, where we go deep, share our hearts, and pray together that are most valuable. It's the moments where we are intentional about seeking Jesus together. That's what it's all about!
We need to listen to the call to live untamed for God.
