Welcome to Porshanality Podcast! A curiously sermonic podcast playground for adulting over 30. Because let’s keep it real, life will keep life with swift transitions, but together we can honor the moments we are in and keep on living. I am your host, Porsha Williams Gates. I’m an entrepreneur, coach, ordained minister, spiritual advisor, writer, and so much more. Join me weekly on Wednesdays as we grow and live together in community.

It's my birthday yall! It's officially my Jesus year. Today, we're celebrating another year of life and all the beautiful things that come with it. Join us as I reflect on the past year, share my favorite moments, and set intentions for the year ahead.

Here is my framework for my reflecting on my birthday:
    1. Reflecting on the Past Year
First, take a moment to reflect on the past year. What were some of the challenges you faced? What were some of the things you are proud of? What lessons did we learn? Take a moment to acknowledge all that has happened and how you’ve grown.
    1. Reflect on Favorite Moments
Share your favorite moments from the past year. Maybe it was a fun vacation, a special event, or a meaningful conversation with a loved one. Whatever it is, let's take a moment to appreciate the joy and happiness that these moments brought you.
    1. Reflect on Setting Intentions
Set intentions for the year ahead. What do you want to achieve? What are your goals for the coming year? Take a moment to think about the things you want to accomplish and set some actionable steps to make them happen.

Thank you for joining me on this special birthday episode. I hope that you feel inspired to reflect on your birthday the past year, appreciate your favorite moments, and set intentions for the year ahead. Remember, every birthday is a chance to start anew and make the most of the time we have. Until next time, keep celebrating your life!

  • The Pivot, And Whatnot
Welcome to Porshanality Podcast! A curiously sermonic podcast playground for adulting over 30. Because let’s keep it real, life will keep life with swift transitions, but together we can honor the moments we are in and keep on living.

I am your host, Porsha Williams Gates. I’m an entrepreneur, coach, ordained minister, spiritual advisor, writer, and so much more. Join me weekly on Wednesdays as we grow and live together in community.

This episode, "The Pivot and Whatnot," explores what it means to pivot. We can pivot and transition into new jobs, career paths, and more. When we pivot, we must consider a few things:
    • Consider what is grounding and rooting us.
    • Consider who grounds you and the people you are in community with.
    • Consider the fears that arise in the process.
    • Consider a self-assessment in the process of the pivot.
Pivoting is never easy, but it is very much possible.

  • Be Here Now, and Whatnot
Welcome to Porshanality Podcast! A curiously sermonic podcast playground for adulting over 30. Because let’s keep it real, life will keep life with swift transitions, but together we can honor the moments we are in and keep on living.

I am your host, Porsha Williams Gates. I’m an entrepreneur, coach, ordained minister, spiritual advisor, writer, and so much more. Join me weekly on Wednesdays as we grow and live together in community.

For this episode, "BE HERE, NOW, AND WHATNOT," Porsha shares about being in the present moment. Often times we are looking towards the past or the future that were are missing out on what is before us in the present moment. When asked what is next for her after transitioning out of the parish, she responded with being in the present. Porsha is focused on what is in front of her at the moment. While she does think about the future and refelct on the past, she finds that the place where the two meet is called the present.

There are many benefits to being still and living in the present moment. Here are a few:
    1. Reduced stress and anxiety: When we focus on the present moment, we are less likely to worry about the past or the future, which can help reduce stress and anxiety.
    2. Improved concentration: Being still and present allows us to fully concentrate on the task at hand, which can improve our performance and productivity.
    3. Increased self-awareness: When we are still and present, we become more aware of our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. This can help us better understand ourselves and our reactions to different situations.
    4. Better relationships: When we are fully present with others, we can build deeper and more meaningful connections with them.
    5. Greater appreciation of life: Being still and present allows us to fully experience the beauty of life, including the small moments that we may otherwise overlook.
    6. Improved mental and physical health: Studies have shown that mindfulness practices, which involve being still and present, can improve both mental and physical health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression and by boosting the immune system.
Overall, being still and living in the present moment can help us lead a more fulfilling and joyful life.

  • EP 30 #AmplifyHumanity- Suicide Awareness Month
*Content Warning* Welcome back to the Amplify Humanity Podcast. On this episode, Porsha shares with us about Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month.

As of July 16, 2022, 988 is the new three-digit dialing code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, now called the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Anyone, anywhere in the U.S. can now call, chat, or text 988 and receive resources and support during a suicide, mental health, or substance use crisis.

Connecting a national network of over 180 independently operated state and local crisis call centers, 988 links callers throughout the U.S. to immediate crisis care.

Ideally, callers are connected with a local counselor in their own state. However, if the local center is unable to answer, the Lifeline reroutes calls to backup centers in their network, both in and out of state. Currently, the Lifeline provides live crisis center phone services in English and Spanish and uses Language Line Solutions to provide translation services in over 250 additional languages for people who call 988! Below are a few more resources.
National Alliance on Mental Illness: 1-800-950-6264
    loveisrespect: 1-866-331-9474
The Trevor Project: 1-866-488-7386 or text START to 678678
YouthLine: Text teen2teen to 839863, or call 1-877-968-8491
National Deaf Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-855-812-1001

Let's continue to raise awareness and help people know what they can do if they (or someone they know) is struggling, and how to have authentic, caring conversations about suicide and mental health.
