There is a moment, right before God speaks to me, when the air just leaves my body. Every single time. I cannot explain it any better than that. One second I am walking and talking and running my own mouth like I always do, and the next second I cannot breathe. I have learned that when that happens, I had better get quiet, because He is about to say something, and I do not want to miss it.
Before you read another word, scroll back up and watch the video at the top of this page. It is short. Watch it anyway. The rest of what I have to say only lands if you have seen it first.
Here is the bottom line up front, because that is how I like to do things. MyR2B Ministries exists for one reason before all the others. We exist to teach people how to actively hear the voice of God. Not hear about Him. Not hear of Him. Hear Him. And then do what He says. Everything else we build sits on top of that one foundation. If you understand nothing else about who we are, understand that.
Now let me tell you how we got here.
A Man Named Noah
In the video you just watched, there is a man named Noah. He is sitting out in the middle of a field, all by himself, and he is praying. Nothing dramatic. No lights, no thunder, no music swell. Just a man on the ground talking to God the way you would talk to someone you trust.
When he finishes, he gets up and starts walking back up toward the road. And then, right in the middle of an ordinary step, something happens. It is like the air leaves his lungs. His breath gets taken away, and he stops. He is not sure what he just heard. He only knows he heard something. And the second he stops, the second he goes quiet and actually listens, his breath gets taken away again. That is when God speaks to him.
Then Noah does what most of us do when God has finally gotten through. He goes and tries to tell his wife. And his wife looks at him the way a lot of spouses look at us when we come in from the field talking about what God just said. She thinks he might be a little off.
I love that part, because it is so honest. That is real life. God will hand you something out in a quiet field, and then you have to go back into a noisy house and try to put words to it for people who were not there. Welcome to the walk.
Why He Takes My Breath
Noah’s story is my story.
Whenever God speaks to me, He takes my breath away. He always has. And for the longest time I could not figure out why. Why does the Lord pull the air right out of me right before He says something? It felt strange. It almost felt like an interruption.
And then it became obvious, and it was a little embarrassing once I saw it.
I talk a lot. Anybody who knows me will tell you that. If I am talking, I am usually interrupting. I am throwing in my own thoughts. I am finishing the sentence before the other person gets to it. I am narrating my own opinion right over the top of whatever is being said to me. That is just who I am in the flesh.
So I have come to believe that one of the reasons God takes my breath away is simple. When I cannot speak, I cannot interrupt. And when I cannot interrupt, I am finally forced to do the one thing I am worst at. I listen.
Jesus said it plainly.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27, ESV)
Hearing and following are stitched together in that one sentence. You do not get to keep one and skip the other. The sheep that hear are the same sheep that follow. And I have learned, the hard way and over many years, that I cannot hear Him well while I am still running my mouth.
I want to be straight with you about something, because I am not going to stand up here and pretend. I am not perfect. Not by any stretch of the imagination. There are times He tells me to do something and I do it, and there are times He tells me to do something and I drag my feet, or I put my own timing on it, or I add my own twist to it. We are all fleshy. We all carry this sin nature around with us, and that nature wants to do things on its own schedule and its own terms. I am no exception. I have missed His timing more than once because I trusted mine more than His. So when I teach this, I am not teaching from a mountaintop. I am teaching from the field, with grass stains on my knees, still learning the same lessons I am asking you to learn.
The First Assignment
This all started when the world was coming apart. It was right around the time COVID hit. Everybody was panicking. People were giving up, locking down inside their own fear, scared of what was coming next. Michelle and I sat down together and made a decision. We were not going to be scared. We were going to do the opposite of what everyone else was doing. We were going to hunker down, get strong, listen to God, and do whatever He told us to do.
So I asked Him straight. Okay, sir. What do you want of me? What do you want me to do? I am here. Use me.
And He answered. What He told me in that moment is the beginning of this ministry and everything that has come out of it since. He told me to support His loved ones. To help His loved ones. And to make His loved ones stronger. His loved ones. That is you. That has always been you. That is the whole assignment in one sentence, and I have been working it out ever since.
Now let me be honest about how little I brought to the table. He gave me the instructions for building the websites and the ministry itself, but a podcast? I knew nothing about starting a podcast. Nothing. Everything I know about it I learned on the job, right there in the moment, because He gave me the inspiration step by step. I did not pick it up in a class or off a video somewhere. When He said do this, I started, and He literally walked me through it in my head as I went, because I had no idea what I was doing on my own.
So I give Him the credit. All of it. Everything from the first day of this ministry to where it stands right now, including every single person who has subscribed, came organically. None of it was built on social media games or marketing tricks. It was God, working through obedience, one step at a time. Everything I write comes out of His love. Everything I study and put down on the page is Him. I do not take any of it for myself. I give God 100 percent of everything I do in this ministry.
He did not hand me a marketing plan or a five year strategy. He handed me a priority. The very first one. Teach people how to hear His voice.
I would sharpen that even further now. Teach people how to actively hear His voice.
Because there is a world of difference between hearing and actively hearing. Plenty of people hear God in some vague, background, someday kind of way. They feel a nudge, they get a little conviction, they sense He is near, and then they go right on with their day and do nothing with it. That is hearing. It is real, but it is incomplete.
Actively hearing is different. Actively hearing means that when He says something, you move. You do it. James put it about as bluntly as a man can.
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22, ESV)
And Jesus asked the question that still stings two thousand years later.
Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? (Luke 6:46, ESV)
That is the whole game. That is the difference between a believer who is alive and one who is just decorating.

The Question I Have to Ask You
When I sit with someone in ministry, I almost always ask them the same question. I ask it slow, and I watch their face when I do.
Are you sure you want to hear His voice?
And before they answer, I push a little harder. Are you 100 percent sure?
Because wanting to hear His voice is one thing. Desiring to hear His voice is something else entirely. When you only want it, you are window shopping. When you desire it, you are committing, and you had better be ready for what comes next. Because the moment you truly desire to hear Him, you are also signing up to obey what He says. And He does not limit Himself to the comfortable, convenient, easy stuff. It can be minor. It can be major. It can be anything in between. The size of the assignment is His call, not yours.
Our job is to follow through. To do what He asks with honesty, with integrity, and with due diligence. Not halfway. Not eventually. Not after we have negotiated the terms. Jesus said it about as simply as it can be said.
If you love me, you will keep my commandments. (John 14:15, ESV)
Obedience is not the tax we pay for hearing God. Obedience is the proof that we actually love Him.
So I will ask you the same thing I ask everyone. Do not answer fast. Sit with it. Are you sure you want to hear His voice?

Let me stop and say something plain before I go on. So What Is MyR2B Ministries?
That is the why. Here is the what.
MyR2B stands for My Reasons To Believe. We are a discipleship focused, evangelical Christian ministry founded by my wife Michelle and me, together. This is not a one man show, and it never has been. Michelle stands in this with me as a co-founder, and she carries pieces of the work that only she can carry. You will hear plenty from her as we go. Our whole reason for existing is to take a generation that has been fed spiritual junk food and put real meat back on the table. We are not interested in hype. We are not interested in entertainment that masquerades as faith. We are interested in disciples. The kind Jesus actually asked for.
Our motto says it in three lines, and we mean every word.
Revival Through Discipleship. Truth Over Trend. Faith Over Fear.
Our mission is simple to say and hard to live. We exist to awaken, equip, and mobilize believers into disciplined spiritual maturity. Awaken the ones who are asleep. Equip the ones who are awake but unarmed. And mobilize the ones who are equipped but standing still. That is the work.
At the center of all of it is the name. My Reasons To Believe. We stand on the authority of Scripture as the final word, on salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, on the Holy Spirit who lives in His people and still speaks to them, and on the lifelong call to walk this out as a disciple and not just a fan. I am going to give you our full statement of faith later in this series, line by line, because it deserves its own space and your full attention. For now, know that everything we teach runs through that filter.
MyR2B is not a single thing. It is a command center with several arms, and each one reaches a different person in a different place.
God’s Whisper Podcast is our primary voice. The name comes straight from the heart of everything you just read. When Elijah was looking for God in the wind, the earthquake, and the fire, God was not in any of them.
And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. (1 Kings 19:12, ESV)
We named the podcast after that whisper, the very thing we are trying to teach you to hear.

But it all comes back to a man named Noah, sitting alone in a field, having his breath taken away so he would finally stop talking long enough to listen. I know that feeling. I live in it. And my prayer for you, the whole reason any of this exists, is that you would learn to live in it too.
