  • 24-058 Foundations of Faith: Building Life on the Rock of God’s Word

In the ever-shifting landscape of our world, where storms both literal and metaphorical rage with relentless fury, the quest for a foundation that holds firm is more critical than ever. It's in the midst of this tumult that a profound truth echoes across the ages, a directive that offers not just stability, but unshakeable security. Today, we delve into the heart of this directive, exploring the transformational power of listening to and acting on the words of God.

Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Matthew 7:24-25 - "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."

This passage presents us with a vivid illustration of wisdom and folly, encapsulated in the act of building. It's a metaphor that extends far beyond the physical construction of a dwelling, speaking to the very essence of how we construct our lives. Trusting God when He speaks to us means more than just acknowledging His words; it requires the deliberate action of building our lives upon them. It's in this act of building that we find our lives, no matter how fiercely the storms may rage, anchored securely upon a foundation that cannot be shaken.

    Focus Points (2 minutes):

    * Hearing and Doing: Emphasize the dual action called for in the scripture—listening to God’s word and then putting it into practice. It's a symbiotic process that transforms belief into a living, breathing testament of faith.

    * The Nature of the Foundation: Explore what it means to have a foundation built on the rock of God’s word. This is a foundation of trust, obedience, and unwavering faith that stands immovable in the face of life’s trials.

    * Surviving the Storms: Reflect on the inevitability of storms in our lives and the difference a solid foundation makes. The focus isn't on avoiding the storm, but on enduring it with confidence, knowing that our foundation is secure.

    Conclusion:

The wisdom of building our lives on the teachings of Christ is more than an ancient truth; it's a living, breathing strategy for survival and triumph in the face of life’s greatest challenges. Trusting God when He speaks to us, and acting on His word, equips us with a resilience that is not of this world. It's a divine assurance that no matter how tumultuous the storm, our foundation will remain firm.

    Call to Action:

This week, take a moment to assess the foundation upon which you’re building your life. Is it rooted in the shifting sands of worldly wisdom or the unshakeable rock of God’s word? Identify one area of your life where you can begin to more actively put God’s teachings into practice, and commit to making that change.

Question of the Day: What storms are you facing, and how can reinforcing your foundation with God’s word provide the strength and stability you need?

    Let's Pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the solidity and strength of Your word, a foundation upon which we can build our lives with confidence. Help us to not only listen to Your teachings but to actively embody them in all that we do. Grant us the wisdom to seek Your voice above all others and the courage to put Your words into practice, so that when the storms come, we may stand firm, anchored in the unshakeable trust we have in You. Amen.

As we move forward, let’s carry with us the image of the wise builder, remembering that the strength of our foundation determines the resilience of our structure. By choosing to build our lives on the teachings of Christ, we ensure that no storm can prevail against us. Let’s embrace the steadfastness that comes from trusting God when He speaks, building our lives on the rock, and witnessing the unfailing stability it brings.

  • 24-057 Defying Conformity: The Path to Divine Clarity

In a world that often seems like it's spinning on the axis of conformity, where the pull to blend in and follow the crowd can be overwhelming, there stands a call to break free. It's a call to not just march to the beat of a different drum, but to listen and move in rhythm with the divine orchestrator Himself. Our journey today takes us into the heart of what it means to trust God when He speaks, guided by the transformative wisdom found in Romans 12:2.

Our springboard for today’s discussion is: Romans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

This scripture is not merely an instruction; it's a liberation. It calls us out of the world's endless cycle of conformity and into a process of transformation that begins in the deepest parts of our minds. This transformation is pivotal—it's the gateway through which we can discern and embrace God's will for our lives. Trusting God when He speaks to us involves this very renewal of our minds, allowing His voice to become clearer, even when it goes against the grain of societal expectations.

    Full 2 Minute "Focus Training":

Step 1: Embrace Solitude: Start by finding a quiet place where you can be alone with God. Silence your phone, turn off the TV, and eliminate distractions. Solitude is the soil in which the seed of God’s word takes root.

Step 2: Meditate on the Word: Take Romans 12:2 and read it slowly, several times. Meditate on each phrase, asking God to reveal its meaning and application for your life. This meditation is the water that nurtures the seed.

Step 3: Reflect and Write: Reflect on areas of your life where you've felt pressured to conform. Write these down, then next to each, write how a renewed mind might change your perspective or actions in these areas. This reflection is the sunlight needed for growth.

Step 4: Commit to Transformation: Choose one area you’ve written about and commit to seeking God’s guidance in transforming your approach to it. Ask for His strength to resist conformity and for the courage to embody His will. This commitment is the fruit that begins to grow from the seed.

    Conclusion:

The journey from conformity to divine clarity is not one we walk alone. It requires a daily commitment to renew our minds, to immerse ourselves in God’s word, and to trust that His voice will guide us to His perfect will. By doing so, we don't just resist the pattern of this world; we become beacons of transformation within it.

    Call to Action:

This week, challenge yourself to identify one pattern of the world you’ve conformed to and take deliberate steps towards renewing your mind in that area. Whether it’s changing how you spend your time, altering the content you consume, or transforming the way you interact with others, let this be a week of beginning transformation.

Question of the Day: What specific area of your life do you need to stop conforming to the world and start allowing God to transform?

    Let's Pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the call to transformation—a call that invites us into a deeper understanding of Your will. Help us to not conform to the patterns of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Grant us the courage to trust Your voice, to follow Your lead, and to embrace the fullness of Your will for our lives. May our hearts and minds be fertile ground for Your truth, growing and bearing fruit that reflects Your goodness and perfection. Amen.

As we move forward, let’s hold tightly to the promise of transformation that comes from trusting God and renewing our minds. In a world that tempts us to blend in, let's stand out as individuals who have been changed and shaped by the very hand of God. Let this week be a testament to the power of His word to transform and guide us to His perfect will.

  • 24-056 A Love Letter From God: Chosen for My Purpose

    My Dear and Valiant Warrior,

In the quiet moments before the day unfolds, I draw you into My presence, to remind you of a profound truth that marks your journey. Reflect deeply upon My words in John 15:18-19: "If the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you."

These words are not spoken to bring fear into your heart but to fortify it with the courage and understanding necessary for the path you walk as My follower. You have been chosen, set apart, not to blend seamlessly into the patterns and pursuits of this world but to stand as a beacon of My light and love.

The distinction you carry as My chosen one is both a privilege and a proclamation. It is a privilege because you have been called to bear My name, to embody My values, and to advance My kingdom. It is a proclamation because through your life, the radical nature of My love and the transformative power of My grace are declared to a world in desperate need of hope.

The reality of being set apart means that you will, at times, find yourself at odds with the prevailing currents of culture and society. When you feel this tension, remember, it is not a sign that you have lost your way, but rather, it is an affirmation that you are firmly in My grasp, living out the purpose for which I have called you.

The world's resistance and rejection, though painful, serve as reminders that your citizenship is in My kingdom, your values are rooted in My truth, and your ultimate allegiance is to Me. This is not your home; you are passing through, leaving marks of My love, seeds of My Gospel, touching lives with My grace.

So, when you face opposition, scorn, or misunderstanding because of your faith and your commitment to Me, take heart. It is because you shine My light into the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. You carry within you the hope of the Gospel, the message of salvation, and the promise of eternal life—a message that is sometimes welcomed with joy and other times met with hostility.

Stand firm, My beloved warrior. Let your life be a testament to My unchanging love and My transformative power. Let your words and actions be guided by My Spirit, demonstrating the beauty of a life surrendered to Me. And remember, in every challenge, in every moment of doubt or discouragement, I am with you, empowering you, comforting you, and cheering you on.

You are My chosen one, called out of the world to be a vessel of My divine purpose. Embrace this calling with boldness and confidence, for I have equipped you for every good work I have set before you. In Me, you are more than a conqueror, destined to shine brightly in a world that needs the light you carry.

With All My Love and Infinite Grace,

    Your Heavenly Father

  • 24-054 Unwavering Courage: The Strength to Trust in God’s Promises

In the vast expanse of life's uncertainties, where each step might feel like venturing into uncharted territories, the command to be strong and courageous isn't just a mere suggestion; it's a vital lifeline. This call to action resonates through the ages, as potent today as it was when first spoken to Joshua. It's an assurance that in the midst of our fears and doubts, there is a source of strength that is unfailing. Today, we delve into the heart of what it means to stand firm in our trust in God, especially when He speaks to us through His promises.

Scripture: Joshua 1:9 - "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

At the threshold of the Promised Land, faced with daunting challenges and formidable enemies, Joshua was given a command that would become the bedrock of his leadership: to be strong and courageous. This wasn't mere human bravado; it was a strength and courage rooted in the promise of God's unfailing presence. Trusting God when He speaks to us means embracing this same command, understanding that His presence is a guarantee of our victory, regardless of the giants we face.

    Focus Points (2 minutes):

    * Divine Strength: Highlight the distinction between human strength and the strength that comes from God. It’s a strength that doesn’t wane when faced with adversity but grows stronger in the face of it.

    * Courage in Action: Discuss what it means to be courageous in our daily lives. It’s not the absence of fear but the decision to move forward in faith, trusting that God’s promises are sure.

    * The Presence That Promises Victory: Delve into the significance of God’s promise to be with us. This assurance is not just about comfort; it’s about empowering us to face anything, knowing we are never alone.

    Conclusion:

The command to be strong and courageous is more than an ancient decree; it's a present-day proclamation over our lives. Trusting God when He speaks involves taking Him at His word, believing in His promises, and moving forward with a courage that defies our circumstances. It's a trust that transforms fear into fortitude, doubt into determination.

    Call to Action:

Identify a situation in your life where fear or discouragement has been holding you back. Commit this situation to God in prayer, asking for the strength and courage to move forward. Take one step of faith this week, no matter how small, as a tangible act of trust in God’s promise to be with you.

Question of the Day: What does being “strong and courageous” look like in your current circumstances, and how can you actively trust God’s promise to be with you?

    Let's Pray:

Lord, we come before You acknowledging our need for Your strength and courage. In the face of our fears and challenges, remind us of Your command to be strong and not afraid. Fill us with the courage that comes from knowing You are with us, that Your presence is our assurance of victory. Help us to trust You more, to lean on Your promises, and to step forward in faith, knowing that You are by our side every step of the way. Amen.

As we face the unknowns of our journey, let's cling to the command to be strong and courageous, not as a burden we carry alone but as a promise we walk in together with God. He is with us, in every challenge, every fear, every step. Trust in His word, lean into His presence, and let His courage be your strength. Together, let's move forward, emboldened by the promise of His unfailing presence, for there is no ground we walk that He has not already claimed in victory.

  • 24-053 Hearing Through the Noise: Trusting the God-Breathed Guide in Life’s Journey

In the relentless hustle and din of our daily lives, where countless voices vie for our attention and myriad paths unfold before us, the challenge of discerning which way to turn can often feel overwhelming. Amidst this cacophony, how do we tune our ears to the one voice that matters most—the voice of God speaking through His word? Today, we anchor our discussion in the timeless truth of 2 Timothy 3:16-17, exploring the power of scripture to guide, correct, and equip us for the journey ahead.

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

This passage offers a profound declaration of the authority and utility of scripture in our lives. It's not just a collection of ancient texts, but the living, breathing communication of God to His people—divinely inspired and infinitely applicable to our lives today. Trusting God when He speaks to us means recognizing scripture as more than just words on a page; it's the very breath of God, designed to shape us, direct us, and prepare us for the work He has called us to do.

    Focus Points (2 minutes):

    * God-Breathed Guidance: Emphasize the divine inspiration of scripture, highlighting how it serves as a direct line of communication from God to guide us through life's complexities.

    * Scripture's Role in Correction: Discuss the importance of being open to correction through scripture. It's not always comfortable, but it's crucial for growth and alignment with God’s will.

    * Equipped for Every Good Work: Reflect on how scripture prepares us for service. It's not just about personal betterment; it's about being equipped to make a tangible difference in the world around us, in line with God’s plans.

    Conclusion:

Trusting God when He speaks involves a deep engagement with scripture, allowing it to teach, correct, and train us. It's about leaning not on our own understanding but on the God-breathed wisdom that has been provided for our instruction. By immersing ourselves in the word of God, we ensure that our lives are built on a foundation that is both unshakeable and aligned with His purposes.

    Call to Action:

This week, commit to delving deeper into scripture. Choose a book of the Bible you haven't studied in a while, or perhaps ever, and dedicate time each day to reading and reflecting on its teachings. As you do, be open to the ways God might be speaking to you through His word, guiding your steps and correcting your course.

Question of the Day: How has scripture equipped you for the good work God has called you to, and where might you be needing more guidance and correction from God’s word?

    Let's Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your word, breathed out by You and given to us as a guide, a corrective, and a trainer in righteousness. Help us to trust in the power of scripture, to be open to its teachings, and to allow it to equip us thoroughly for every good work You have set before us. Strengthen our resolve to turn to Your word daily, listening for Your voice and aligning our hearts and actions with Your will. Amen.

As we move forward in the noise and haste of life, let us hold fast to the God-breathed scriptures, allowing them to be our compass and guide. In doing so, we trust not in the fleeting wisdom of the world, but in the eternal wisdom of God, ensuring that we are thoroughly equipped for the journey He has laid out for us. • 24-052 Unwavering Allegiance: Choosing Divine Approval Over Human Applause

In a world that incessantly demands our conformity, where the siren songs of societal approval lure us toward the rocks of compromise, standing firm in our faith is both a declaration of independence and a commitment to a higher calling. It's about where we place our trust and whose voice we choose to heed amid the cacophony. Today, we delve into the heart of Galatians, where Paul challenges us to examine our allegiances and to find our approval in God alone.

Scripture: Galatians 1:10 - "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ."

This potent question from Paul serves as a mirror, reflecting the true nature of our daily pursuits and the motivations behind our actions. It's a stark reminder that the path of a Christ follower is often counter-cultural, marked not by the pursuit of human approval but by the steadfast pursuit of God's will. Trusting God when He speaks to us means having the courage to choose His approval over the fleeting accolades of man, even when it isolates us from the crowd.

    Focus Points (2 minutes):

    * Divine Approval vs. Human Applause: Highlight the transient nature of human approval and contrast it with the eternal satisfaction of living within God's will. Discuss the freedom that comes from no longer being captive to the opinions of others.

    * Courage to Stand Alone: Emphasize the strength and courage required to live out one's faith authentically in a world that often values conformity over conviction. Share stories or examples of individuals who chose God's approval over human applause and the impact it had on their lives and faith.

    * Servanthood to Christ: Delve into what it truly means to be a servant of Christ — living a life that is dedicated to pleasing God rather than people. Discuss the transformative power this commitment has on our personal and spiritual growth.

    Conclusion:

Choosing to seek God's approval over man's is a radical act of trust and faith. It signifies a deep understanding that our value and purpose are rooted not in what the world thinks of us, but in what God knows about us. This choice, while challenging, aligns us more closely with our identity as servants of Christ, liberating us from the chains of human validation.

    Call to Action:

This week, take a moment to reflect on areas of your life where you may be seeking the approval of others over God's. Identify one specific action or decision you can make that prioritizes God's will and approval in your life. Commit to making that change, regardless of the potential for human disapproval.

Question of the Day: Where do you find it most challenging to seek God's approval over human approval, and what steps can you take to strengthen your trust in God's guidance in this area?

    Let's Pray:

Heavenly Father, grant us the courage and wisdom to seek Your approval above all else. Help us to listen for Your voice amidst the noise of the world and to trust in Your guidance even when it leads us away from the path of human approval. Strengthen our resolve to live as true servants of Christ, dedicated to pleasing You in all that we do. May our lives reflect our unwavering allegiance to You, and may we find our ultimate satisfaction and approval in Your loving embrace. Amen.

As we move forward, let us carry the boldness of Paul's question in our hearts, choosing daily to live for the approval of the One who calls us His own. In embracing our identity as servants of Christ, we find not only freedom from the expectations of others but also the joy of walking in the fullness of God's plan for our lives. Let this be the compass that guides us, the light that leads us, and the voice that we trust above all others.

  • 24-051 Beyond the Breath: Placing Trust in the Eternal Over the Temporal

In the grand tapestry of life, where each thread is woven with decisions and crossroads, the whisper of God's guidance often competes with the clamorous voices of human influence. It's a pivotal moment of choice — to anchor our trust in the fleeting or in the everlasting. Today, we delve into the profound wisdom of Isaiah, seeking to understand the essence of placing our trust where it truly belongs, in the hands of our eternal Creator, rather than in the fallible hands of humanity.

Scripture: Isaiah 2:22 - "Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?"

This passage serves as a stark reminder of the transient nature of human existence and the folly of placing our ultimate trust in humanity's wisdom. It challenges us to examine where we place our trust and encourages us to redirect it towards God, whose wisdom, power, and presence surpass the limitations of human understanding and ability. Trusting God when He speaks to us involves a conscious decision to elevate His eternal perspective above the temporal opinions and influences of those around us.

    Focus Points (2 minutes):

    * Transient vs. Eternal: Recognize the fleeting nature of human life and wisdom. Contrast this with the eternal, unchanging nature of God and His word, highlighting the stability and reliability that comes from trusting in Him.

    * Discerning Voices: In a world filled with voices vying for our attention, learning to discern the voice of God is crucial. Discuss the importance of prayer, scripture, and silence in tuning into God's guidance, distinguishing it from the cacophony of human opinions.

    * Elevating Trust: Encourage listeners to consciously elevate their trust from the human to the divine. This involves not just a one-time decision but a daily, moment-by-moment choice to seek and follow God's direction over human counsel.

    Conclusion:

The journey of trusting God over humans is a transformative process, requiring not only a shift in perspective but a steadfast commitment to seek His will above all else. Isaiah's words remind us that our trust should not be anchored in the transient, but in the eternal — in the One who created us, who knows our end from our beginning, and whose plans for us are grounded in love and eternal wisdom.

    Call to Action:

This week, take a moment to reflect on where you've placed your trust. Identify one area of your life where you've been relying more on human wisdom than on God's guidance. Commit to seeking God's direction in this area, through prayer and meditation on His word, and make a conscious decision to trust His guidance over human opinion.

Question of the Day: Where have you felt the tension between trusting God's voice and the voices of those around you, and how can you more firmly place your trust in God?

    Let's Pray:

Father, help us to see beyond the temporary, to trust not in the fleeting wisdom of humanity but in Your eternal, unchanging truth. Teach us to discern Your voice amid the noise, to value Your guidance above all human counsel. Strengthen our faith to trust in You fully, knowing that Your plans for us are perfect and Your wisdom is infinite. In moments of doubt, remind us of Your steadfast presence and lead us back to the sure foundation of Your word. Amen.

As we navigate the complexities of life, let us remember Isaiah's call to elevate our trust beyond the transient. In choosing to trust God's eternal voice over the fleeting breaths of human wisdom, we anchor ourselves in a trust that is unshakeable, guided by the whisper of God that leads us into everlasting truth. Let's embark on this journey of trust together, with our eyes fixed not on the seen, but on the unseen, where our true guidance lies.

  • 24-050 Echoes of Assurance: Learning to Lean on Divine Guidance

In the cacophony of life’s relentless demands, where every decision feels like a crossroads, the ability to discern and trust in God's voice becomes the beacon that guides us through the fog. But how do we cultivate this trust, especially when His guidance seems to defy our understanding or when the path He points us down is shrouded in uncertainty? Today, we anchor ourselves in the wisdom of Proverbs, seeking to understand the essence of true trust in the divine.

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5-6 - "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

This scripture doesn't just invite us to trust; it challenges us to do so with our whole heart, to surrender our need to comprehend every twist and turn of the path ahead. It's a call to embrace a trust so profound that it becomes the compass by which we navigate all aspects of our lives. Trusting God when He speaks to us means acknowledging that our vision is limited, but His is boundless. It means understanding that the clarity we seek often comes not from the assurance of the outcome, but from the assurance of who is leading us towards it.

    Focus Points (2 minutes):

    * Wholehearted Trust: Trusting God with all your heart is an all-in commitment. It means putting your faith in Him even when the stakes are high and the path is unknown.

    * Beyond Understanding: Our human understanding is inherently limited. Accepting that God’s ways are higher than ours is crucial in learning to trust His voice, even when it doesn’t make sense from our perspective.

    * Submission to Divine Will: To submit to Him in all our ways is to consult God in every decision, big or small. It's about making His will the foundation upon which our choices are built.

    Conclusion:

Trusting God when He speaks to us is an act of profound faith and surrender. It's about recognizing that our understanding is not the yardstick by which we measure the reliability of God's guidance. Instead, it's about submitting to a will greater than our own, confident in the knowledge that He will straighten the paths before us.

    Call to Action:

This week, identify a decision you're facing where you've relied heavily on your own understanding. Take a moment to bring it before God in prayer, asking for His guidance and committing to trust in His direction, even if it challenges your own reasoning.

Question of the Day: In what area of your life do you find it most challenging to trust God, and how can you take steps to deepen your trust in His guidance?

    Let's Pray:

Heavenly Father, grant us the courage to trust in You with all our hearts, relinquishing our reliance on our own understanding. In every decision, help us to submit our ways to You, trusting that You will guide us to the right path. Strengthen our faith in Your voice, that we may follow Your lead with confidence, knowing that You are with us every step of the way. Amen.

As we journey forward, let us hold fast to the promise that when we trust in the Lord and submit to His guidance, our paths will be made straight. Let this assurance be the light that guides us through the darkest valleys and the anchor that holds us steady in the roughest seas. With unwavering faith in His voice, let's step into the future He has for us, one step at a time.

  • 24-049 A Love Letter From God: Steadfast in Faith

    My Courageous Warrior,

As dawn breaks and the world awakens to a new day, I call you into a moment of stillness, to hear My voice, to feel My presence enveloping you. The path you walk as My follower is one of profound beauty and significant challenge. In the words of Matthew 10:22, I have laid bare the cost of discipleship: "You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved." These words are not meant to dismay you but to prepare and fortify you for the journey ahead.

In this world, you will face opposition, misunderstanding, and even hostility because of your allegiance to Me. This is a reality that My earliest followers knew well, and it remains true for you today. The values of My kingdom often stand in stark contrast to the ways of the world, and as you live out these values, you may find yourself at odds with those around you.

But take heart, My beloved. This opposition is not a sign of your failure but a testimony to your faithfulness. You are a light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in a world of despair. The resistance you encounter is simply a shadow that your light dispels.

In the face of persecution, I call you to stand firm, to hold fast to your faith, and to the truth of My word. Your perseverance is a powerful witness to the strength and grace that I supply. It speaks volumes of your love for Me and your commitment to My cause.

Remember, the one who stands firm to the end will not only be saved but will also emerge refined, strengthened, and more deeply rooted in My love. This promise of salvation is not merely about the future; it is a present reality that encompasses peace, joy, and a deep-seated assurance of My presence with you, come what may.

I am with you in every moment of trial and triumph. I am your strength when you feel weak, your peace when you are anxious, and your refuge when you are persecuted. Lean into Me, draw from My wellspring of grace, and let My Spirit empower you to face each day with courage and conviction.

As you go forth today, remember that you are never alone. I have called you, equipped you, and commissioned you. You are My warrior, chosen and cherished. Let this knowledge be your shield and your strength.

Stand firm, My child, for great is your reward in heaven. The trials of this world are but a momentary affliction compared to the eternal glory that awaits you. Press on, persevere, and let your life be a testament to the transformative power of My love.

With Unfailing Love and Infinite Strength,

    Your Almighty Father
