The decision to follow the Word of God hinges on freewill (i.e., the ability to choose either good or evil in every situation). Freewill is given in equal measure, as a gift from the Lord to all men. The more one yields himself by choice to evil, the more he subjects himself to the power of hell and its influence. Depending on the extent to which a man has yielded himself to hell, he is deceived into thinking that he cannot look to the Lord for help to become what the Word says. His 'false reality' of being a weakling and being disadvantaged, in comparison to other 'special strong men', becomes his convenient excuse.
