Marlene began her journey in education in an unorthodox manner. She was volunteering in her daughter’s 3rd grade classroom and was told that there was an opening for a computer teaching position that she should apply for. Now over two decades later and a few degrees later she spends her work hours creating schools of distinction. As a presenter and leader, Marlene has coached thousands of educators striving to transform their schools.
Prior to going into education, Marlene and her husband owned businesses and she worked in the private sector. Once in education, Marlene taught K-5 Computers, Middle School Technology & Career Explorations and ended her teaching career teaching High School Engineering, starting the first Rural Arizona Engineering program and being named Arizona Rural Teacher of the Year. She has now been in Administration for ten years and is opening her second high school as a principal.
As a passionate educator, Marlene is a leader with a vision that focuses on climate and culture, creating an environment where students experience real world learning opportunities, and relationship building. As an educational leader Marlene values and supports her teachers and staff by encouraging them to be innovative, creative and self driven. She believes in and recognizes the individual talents and contributions each teacher brings to the school and empowers her staff to be positive role models to their students.
Marlene and her husband, Michael (deceased) joined in the partnership of marriage in 1991 and have four children, Michael Jr., Karessa, Eve & Margaret and one grandson, Bowen. In her spare time, Marlene enjoys spending time with her wonderful family, cooking, camping, hiking, traveling, family game nights and reading.
