Manicka discusses the topic of mental health awareness and the impact that it can have in making changes in our communities. She discusses the importance of African Americans being the center of the solution driven outcomes that impact our families and most importantly our children. Manicka is a licensed social worker with experience in working with children and families overcome social hurdles and providing supportive tools to help them achieve their goals. Manicka Thomas is the CEO of Thomas Community Consulting LLC, a Continuing Education and Professional Development company that offers workshops and training for counselors, social workers and helping professionals from a culturally relevant perspective. She is also the Clinical Director at Kindred Connections Therapy Center. A mental health private practice that specializes in providing therapy to African American children, youth and families impacted by trauma.

With over 10 years of experience, her work with youth and families spans from working with head start children and parents to supporting rising high school Seniors in completing college level coursework for graduation. She has also taught as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Social Work Program at Sinclair Community College. Her primary interests as an educator are Cultural Competence, Afrocentricity as a Model for Social Change, and African American youth development and behavior.
