Consciously Clueless

The Power of Personal Decisions with Marianne Macdonald

Listen Later

Join me as I welcome long-time animal advocate Marianne Macdonald to the podcast. Listen in as we navigate the terrain of conscious living and effective altruism, discussing how we can make the world a better place without feeling overwhelmed. Marianne shares her journey from learning about the horrors of factory farming to becoming a vegetarian and then a vegan, and finding her focus in the animal rights movement. Together, we stress the importance of limiting the amount of information we take in and staying mindful of our capacity to effect change.Tune in to our exploration of the world of farmed animals, particularly chickens. We shed light on the complexities of the chicken meat industry and the devastating consequences of birds being bred to grow faster than nature intended. We discuss the Better Chicken Commitment, a set of standards aimed at improving conditions for chickens in the food industry, and share some advice on staying connected to your cause without feeling overwhelmed.Guest bio: Marianne Macdonald has advocated for animals for over three decades. Originally from the UK, where she campaigned against animal experiments, fox hunting, and recreational fishing, her focus has narrowed to farmed animals. For the last 25 years, she's been based in Auckland, New Zealand. Marianne formed Animals Aotearoa at the start of 2021, to drive welfare change for chickens bred for meat in New Zealand.  You can find out more about Animals Aotearoa and support their current campaign at animalsaotearoa.org
