The Table Winnipeg

The Power of Personification

Listen Later

Well, here we go – adjusting, again. I would add a smiley face emoticon, but honestly…it’s a bit of a tough thing to smile about. That said, I remain grateful for the means of connecting we have, and for all the people that don’t live here in Winnipeg who have been able to be part of our explorations, in no small part because circumstances have compelled us to go virtual. By way of information, our plans at present are to be entirely online for the balance of January, to do a mix of virtual and home gatherings in February and March (dates to follow), and keep you posted about April. As far as the in-home gatherings go, if there is anyone else in the community that is interested in their place being one of the venues, let me know. It would be helpful to spread that around a bit if possible.

As we all know, there are lots of variables and the largest social experiment in history (a.k.a. pandemic management) continues apace, so it’s a bit hard to be dogmatically predictive. I’d ask for your continued patience, but I know that might be getting a bit tapped out as well, so instead I’ll thank you for your continued persistence.  Now that I can add a smiley face to.

We’ll continue to gather online here starting at 10:45 a.m. for music and Community Time, followed by the Talky Bit (live this time). In said Talky Bit, I’ll be picking up with a further exploration of the power of personification, as well as it’s shadow side, de-personification. (Is that an actual word?) How we approach our understanding of this matter can deeply inform our interpersonal interactions, but also the way we interact with the whole world around us. It’s one way of considering why we’ve done such a terrible job of caring for the natural realm, and what we need to adjust in our thinking / believing if we want to see that change. All of this is also tied to how we imagine and relate to the divine or mystery or the transcendent or whatever language we want to use for “that which we don’t think of as us”.
This week, both ALA and TWEZH are on at their usual times; 12:30 on Sunday (following our online gathering) for ALA, and 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday for TWEZH. (If the acronyms aren’t ringing a bell, see last weeks blurb for a full explanation). URL’s for both of those Zoom gatherings are below.
I think that’s it for now. I’ll see you on Sunday!
Peace,
Tim Plett
