My guest today is Elec Simon. Elec refers to himself as a “host-tainer” - he’s an event emcee and percussionist based in Orlando, FL, combining his passion for rhythm and entertainment. Originally from Ohio, Elec has performed Stomp on Broadway, was a Cleveland Cavaliers entertainer, and has emceed for the likes of Lewis Howes. 

Elec’s journey in the entertainment world has allowed him to connect with diverse audiences and leave a lasting impact through the power of music and words. He brings so much energy and excitement to his audiences, but it wasn’t an easy journey to get to where he is today. Join us to hear all about Elec’s incredibly inspiring journey!

On this solo podcast, I’m sharing some stories and moments from my life before I got sober, my “life of the party/party animal/rock star era.” 

Whilst most people know me now as a pretty chill sober dude that does a bunch of yoga and meditates, I used to be a MASSIVE partier and I’ve got a lot of wild stories. Some of these stories might strike you as kinda funny, others might shock you, others are just plain embarrassing.

The reality is, I’m not proud of the way I used to live my life and show up in the world. I’m sharing these stories from my party days - not to glorify my behavior back then - but because I want to show people that they don’t have to take the same route I took, and that if you want it, change IS possible. I was 37 when I realized what I really wanted in my life! 

I have learned to see my past as what has shaped me to become the person I am today, but that my past also doesn’t define me.

Rachel Brooks is the owner and an instructor at Seeking Space Yoga and Yin Yoga Space in Portland, OR.

A Portland-native, Rachel opened Seeking Space Yoga in 2017 as a first time business owner and brand new yoga teacher! She continued to work her “day job” at a mortgage company and bartend at night whilst also running and teaching at the yoga studio - it was a lot!

Throughout her eighteen years in the service industry, Rachel found yoga to be a positive way she could wind down after her bartending shifts. It is Rachel’s belief that yin yoga can help tremendously with anxiety, detox and trauma, and she found herself looking for a place she could practice after her shifts. A longtime advocate of accessible yoga, Rachel founded Yin Yoga Space in 2022 in part to open up yoga as an option for workers in Portland’s service and sex industries.

Frank Turner is an English punk and folk singer-songwriter. He began his career as the vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, then embarked upon an acoustic-based solo career following the band's split in 2005. He’s been super successful as a solo musician, releasing nine solo studio albums to date, with his most recent studio album, FTHC, reaching number 1 in the UK albums chart in 2022. He’s performed over 2,800 shows over 48 countries, and he’s opened for the Boss himself - Bruce Springsteen! Franks tenth studio album, “Undefeated”, which he'd just finished recording when we chatted last year, is to be released on May 3, 2024.

But it wasn’t an easy road to success - Frank’s first solo performance was to a “crowd” of 2 and it took him over 3 years to build up to where his previous band, Million Dead, left off.

Nikki Weaver is an actress, a yoga teacher, a trained massage therapist, and an art therapist. She leveraged her diverse skill to co-found the Portland Playhouse and she now leads On The Inside, a non-profit supporting incarcerated women through creative connection. On the Inside is currently operating in prisons in Oregon, Nebraska, Wyoming, Missouri and Virginia. Nikki also runs wellness retreats for women.

Nikki has witnessed first-hand the creative power that art making has in healing emotional, mental, and spiritual beliefs. In this episode, we cover how she empowers women through connection to their bodies, each other and their spirits.

He had a great life! But then he failed a drug test, was fired from his dream job, and his life spiralled downwards for a number of years.

Today I am joined by Derrick Green. Derrick is the lead singer of the Brazilian heavy metal band Sepultura and co-host of the plant-based travel TV show, Highway To Health.

Sepultura is a world famous metal band that’s been around since 1984 - Derrick’s been the lead singer since 1997 - he's one of the few African American men in metal music Derrick’s been vegetarian for 38 years, vegan for 5 years and sober for 3 and a half years!

How does one set intentions?  Good question! In this episode, I take you through my journey where I learned how to set powerful intentions that helped me make massive shifts in my life AND I share my step-by-step intention-setting process with you. 

In fact, ALL of the intentions I set when I started this process in May 2020 have since come to fruition - plus SO many more! One example? I went from working two jobs that I HATED (working at pizza spot and, believe it or not, a liquor store!), to delivering workshops all over the country, teaching yoga at various studios across Portland, touring with my two bands and absolutely LOVING my work! I now make a living from doing what I love :)
