As we head into the end of the year, how are you feeling? 2021 has sped by. Are you feeling a bit of intensity and overwhelm? I'm feeling the need to simplify, to clear, and get "my house in order" in business and life.
I'm excited for what's to come, but before we can speed up sometimes we need to slow down.
I first recorded this episode last year, it's worth a revisit. The power of emptying your cup will get your ready for the holidays and beyond.
Before you can move forward you need to be empty….. And remember that it is an evolution – an ongoing process.
"The question is: how do we get back to that place of being okay?" – Angela Chee
On today's show, I tell you the story and talk about harnessing the power of emptying your cup. I also talk about what you can fill your cup back up with, how to identify others' struggles and how to set yourself up for success.
"Right now, that is what we need to focus on: what brings you joy?" – Angela Chee
Show Notes:"We need to empty our cups and be open to new ideas." – Angela Chee

"We need to go beyond diversity and talk about how to actually build a more inclusive world." - Rohit Bhargava
What does it mean to be creatively confident?
Today's guest Rohit Bhargava is the founder of the Non-Obvious Company and Ideapress Publishing. He is a #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author and is the host of the Non-Obvious Insights show. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Rohit spent 15 years in leadership roles at two renowned ad agencies: Leo Burnett and Ogilvy. Now he is on a mission to help the world be more open-minded by teaching others how to be non-obvious thinkers.
Rohit and I came together in January when I moderated a virtual panel as part of one of Rohit's big ideas: the first annual Non-Obvious Diversity Summit. The week-long event featured more than 50 sessions on topics ranging from workplace ageism to racial justice to diverse casting to women in tech, food and culture, and more. Now, less than ten months later, the summit has been turned into a book.
"It's not like there is something that is non-obvious for everybody." - Rohit Bhargava
In today's show, we talk about how to cultivate creativity, what it takes to make a more inclusive world, and why Rohit reads magazines for farmers. He shares how he cultivated his creativity out of his discomfort of being someone who wasn't supposed to be creative and how we shouldn't let titles or labels limit us. We also talk about the power of brainstorming, and why being creatively confident can be the key to your success.
"The goal is to find something that is non-obvious to you." - Rohit Bhargava

"In this age of insta-fame, what does it take to truly be successful?" - Angela Chee
What are you committed to?
Let this episode be your reminder to cultivate moments in your life that make you smile. My reminder happened at a Maroon 5 concert a couple of weeks ago. It inspired me to think about commitment; commitment to ourselves, commitment to our craft, commitment to our calling, and commitment to keep growing and evolving. Sometimes it takes a magical moment to be reminded that what matters the most are all the things behind the scenes that people don't see.
"The key to success sometimes is commitment in the long-term." - Angela Chee
In today's show, we talk about the power of commitment, how to stay motivated when no one is looking, and what it takes to get where you're going.
"Sometimes you don't know what your soul needs until you experience it." - Angela Chee
Show Notes:"This episode is dedicated to you: the creators, the trailblazers, the Onlys, the ones who continue to do the work and create joy and inspiration in the world." - Angela Chee

"The gentleman that hired me said this group has been going on for 85 years and, not only are you the first woman speaker, you are the first woman to sit at the head table." - Patricia Fripp
As Onlys, how do we concentrate on connecting with those around us rather than fitting in?
In today's episode, we are going to focus on the power of being first. When she was just 30 years old, Patricia Fripp went into business for herself styling men's hair, when it was a new industry. She has always been curious and a great listener to those around her and it has brought her an immense amount of success in her business ventures. Fast forward a few years and Patricia saw the vision and the opportunity and not only became a well-known professional speaker but the first female president of the National Speakers Association.
We discuss what every leader should know, why it pays to befriend those who appear to have the least in common with you, and why you shouldn't focus on being the only one. Patricia Fripp, CSP, CPAE, is a Hall of Fame award-winning speaker, a sales trainer, author, and an in-demand executive speech coach.
"The future belongs to charismatic communicators who are technically competent and have good people skills." - Patricia Fripp
In today's show, we talk about how to turn a disadvantage into an advantage, how to feel comfortable in a predominantly male environment, and how can leaders bond with their team.
"It's not who's delivering the message as much as what is the message?" - Patricia Fripp
Show Notes:"It is the only time I remember my knees shaking." - Patricia Fripp

"Why do we downplay things so much instead of making them bigger and marking those wins in our life?" - Angela Chee
What can I pause right now and savor?
Today I want to talk about celebration and the science behind its value. If you don't feel like you're in the mood to celebrate, don't worry. You are not alone. This year has been a doozy. And sometimes we forget how far we have come because we are too focused on what's around the next corner. How are you going to rewire your brain for celebration? What are you proud of?
"Our brains are wired to remember the negative." - Angela Chee
In today's show, we talk about rewiring your brain through celebration, how to rediscover what is meaningful to you, and why it's so important to celebrate the little things.
"When I get off the phone with my clients, I just get filled with so much joy." - Angela Chee
Show Notes:"I don't call it the last call, I call it the celebration call." - Angela Chee

"Do we always have to suffer to achieve our goals?" - Angela Chee
What do we lose when we choose to believe in "no pain, no gain" at all costs?
I admit that growing up, I thought that working too hard was a badge of honor. Even as a young adult I fell into that all too common trap of believing that the last one to leave the office each day was winning a contest of some kind. Early on in my career, I believed that it was okay to be working seven days a week -- and I enjoyed all of it. Then I got burnt out.
This is an episode about reevaluating how we are programmed and when that starts to get in our way. We have to ask ourselves if we were brought up with this mentality, in which ways it served us, and in which ways it did not. What was the outcome?
"When is enough enough?" - Angela Chee
In today's show, we talk about what we lose when we choose to believe the common saying "no pain, no gain" at all costs, where the term comes from, and how to honor our boundaries.
"We can shift the culture, but it starts with us." - Angela Chee
Show Notes:"I needed to burn out before I stopped myself." - Angela Chee
