The Sermon on the Mount expresses the mind of Christ, and certainly His mind should be in the Christian. And they’re great principles that are set down here which are profitable for the Christian to learn and to study today, but you will never attain them in your own strength, my friend. You’ll have to go elsewhere to look for the power. We can obey only in the power of the Holy Spirit. Now it’s worse than futile to try and force the Sermon on the Mount on a gainsaying and rebellious world. Only the gospel of the grace of God can make men obedient to Christ, and it was given to bring men to obedience to God.
