  • From Particle Physics to Potions: Victoria Wright on Herbal Medicine and the Limits of Science

Victoria Wright has a PhD in particle physics, spent a decade building digital cameras for drug discovery and mammography, and now makes bespoke herbal tinctures that she cheerfully admits taste disgusting. She is a medical herbalist and functional medicine practitioner specialising in women's hormonal health. In this conversation, Victoria talks about living with undiagnosed pain from the age of 13, being told it was all in her head by multiple gynaecologists, and the diagnosis of endometriosis that finally followed. She explains why she became a sceptic turned believer in herbal medicine, why she thinks women's health is still dismissed, and what an appointment with a herbalist actually looks like. We also talk about integrative care, an unexplained trip to Mongolia, why "it's just quantum physics" isn't a good enough answer, and the real pressures facing herbal practitioners in the UK.

    We cover

Going from particle physics to herbal medicine, and why she still calls herself the biggest science geek going
Living with undiagnosed pain from 13, and being told it was "just your hormones"
Why she believes a hysterectomy doesn't necessarily solve endometriosis
What happens in a 90 minute functional medicine consultation, and what a tincture is
Working alongside conventional treatment, including supporting women through breast cancer care
Perimenopause, HRT and the options for women who can't or don't want to take it
Women's health research funding, and why it's still dismissed
A trip to Mongolia she still can't explain
Why "it's just quantum physics" does the woo-woo a disservice

    About Victoria Wright

Victoria Wright is a medical herbalist and functional medicine practitioner who specialises in women's hormonal health across the lifespan, from painful periods and PCOS to fertility, perimenopause and post-cancer hormonal complexity. She trained as a research scientist and was deeply sceptical about herbal medicine until she used it for her own endometriosis. She now combines 15 years of botanical medicine practice with a research background, looking at the root causes of symptoms rather than managing the loudest one. She is the author of The Health Rebels Almanac.

  • Connection Before Direction: Zeina Zaghloul on Healing Children Through Art and Play

Zeina Zaghloul is a child and family coach working across Lebanon and Kenya, using art, play and puppetry to reach children who don't have the words for what they're carrying. In this conversation, she shares the story of a selectively mute child who finally found his voice through a puppet named Pierrot, and what that revealed about trauma hiding in plain sight at home. She talks about the lasting effects of the 2019 Beirut port explosion on an entire generation of children, the ancestral trauma and displacement running through Lebanese families after decades of war, and the very different challenges of working in informal settlements in Nairobi, where she had to unlearn everything she thought she knew. Zeina's philosophy is simple but powerful: connection before direction, and the belief that healing doesn't have to be serious to be real.

    About Zeina Zaghloul

Zeina Zaghloul is a Child and Family Coach working across Lebanon and Kenya. She has supported children, families and educators through international schools, NGOs, community projects and informal settlements, and is a Certified Mental Health Lead in Schools through the Anna Freud Centre. Her work goes beyond managing behaviour. Through art, play, emotional regulation and identity work, Zeina helps children express what words cannot always reach, and uncover the beliefs shaping how they see themselves. She also helps parents see the child beneath the behaviour, because when we understand the story underneath the struggle, we create space for a child to become who they truly are.

  • "We Don't Want Leni to Be One of the Lucky Ones" - Emily Forrester on Sanfilippo Syndrome and Childhood Dementia

Emily Forrester's daughter Leni was a perfectly healthy, happy toddler, meeting every milestone, when a routine genetic screening in the family led to a diagnosis nobody in the family had ever heard of: Sanfilippo syndrome, a form of childhood dementia. In this conversation, Emily explains what a diagnosis like this actually means, why childhood dementia affects as many children as childhood cancer yet receives a fraction of the funding and recognition, and the excruciating decision she and her husband faced when a second pregnancy was found to be affected by the same condition. She talks about the campaign she's built from nothing, the book she's written, the trial she's fighting to get Leni onto, and why she refuses to let her daughter be "one of the lucky ones." It's a heartbreaking, clear-eyed, and ultimately hopeful conversation about fighting for a child when the system wasn't built to help you.

    We cover

What Sanfilippo syndrome and childhood dementia actually are, and why the awareness gap is so vast
The diagnosis process, and the early signs that seemed like nothing at the time
The excruciating decision to end a second pregnancy after finding it was also affected
Starting IVF with embryo testing to grow their family safely
The fundraising campaign, the book Saving Leni, and the fight for a UK clinical trial
Why newborn screening could be the single biggest lever for children like Leni
What Emily wants every parent facing a diagnosis like this to know

    About Emily Forrester

Emily Forrester is a marketing professional and mum to two-year-old Leni, living in London. Until recently, Emily's life looked like that of any other 33-year-old raising a young family, until October last year, when Leni was diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome, a form of childhood dementia. The diagnosis turned Emily's world upside down, and since then she has become a fierce advocate for Leni and for childhood dementia more broadly, campaigning for the recognition, funding, and treatments that children like Leni desperately need.

  • The Host Gets Hosted: Fran Willoughby on Truth, Grief and Finding Herself Again

For the first time ever, the tables are turned. Lorna, of Lorna Ann Energy, has been a listener of The Power of the Truth for a while now, and she asked if she could step into the host chair and interview me instead. It felt strange agreeing to it, I'm far more comfortable asking the questions, but here we are.

We talk about why I chose truth as the theme of this whole podcast, what it's actually been like slowly "coming out" as a medium after decades of hiding it, and the very different reactions I've had along the way, some funny, some genuinely challenging. I open up about my early career in musical theatre, a job that ended badly and led to a breakdown, and the three brutal, transformative years that followed, losing my parents eleven months apart, alongside other close family losses, and how that grief became the unlikely seed for Mojo Motivator. We also get into identity, people-pleasing, dance as the one place I feel completely myself, and the question a therapist once asked me that I still haven't fully answered: who are you when nobody wants anything from you?

    We cover

Why truth became the whole foundation of this podcast, and of how I run my business
What it's actually been like to slowly become open about being a medium
The reactions, good and bad, to being spiritual outside of organised religion
My early career in musical theatre, touring, and the anxiety that came with it
A job and a breakdown that reshaped everything, and how dance and art brought me back
Losing my parents eleven months apart, and the grief that led to Mojo Motivator
The question that's stuck with me ever since therapy: who am I when nobody needs anything from me?
Why dance and being on the stage, is the one place I feel zero imposter syndrome

    About Lorna

Lorna Ann is an evidential medium, energy healer and spiritual practitioner based in Warrington, working with people to explore intuition, spirituality and their own inner knowing. Through mediumship readings, tarot, Reiki, sound healing and women’s circles, she creates down-to-earth spaces for people to slow down, get curious and connect with themselves on a deeper level.

Lorna’s approach is practical, honest and a little bit witchy, bringing spirituality into real life without the need for complicated rituals or endless spiritual jargon. She’s passionate about helping people trust themselves, explore their intuition and find a bit more magic in the everyday.

  • "It's Not a Gift, I Didn't Get It Wrapped in a Box" - Emily and Her Stars on Mediumship and Midlife

Emily, of Emily and Her Stars, is a psychic medium, evolutionary and intuitive astrologer, and Akashic records reader, she's also my actual friend, which made this conversation feel a little different, in the best way. We talk about what it actually took for her to accept that she was a medium, a process she describes as "surviving," and why admitting it to herself felt more terrifying than telling anyone else. We get properly into the science versus astrology debate, the thousands of years of star-charting behind it, and why she believes it's a false argument we've been sold rather than a real conflict. Emily also opens up about midlife as a spiritual cracking-open point for so many women, why she's fiercely against toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing, and the one piece of jargon she'd delete from the industry forever, starting with the word "gift."

    We cover

What it actually took for Emily to accept she was a medium, and why she calls that process "surviving"
The moment mediumship shifted from a private experience to her actual work
Astrology, Akashic records and human design, how she blends multiple tools in one session
Science versus astrology, and why Emily believes the conflict is a false argument
The thousands of years of astronomical data behind astrology, from ancient star-charting to the debate around a possible 13th zodiac sign
Why midlife seems to crack so many women open spiritually
Toxic positivity, spiritual bypassing, and why "doing the work" never really finishes
The spiritual jargon Emily would delete forever, starting with the word "gift"

  • Chip Scholz on the Hidden Truths of Family Business - Family, Fortune and the Lucky Sperm Club

     Description

"The lucky sperm club." That's what Chip Scholz calls the sons and daughters who inherit businesses they didn't build. He should know, he's spent nearly 30 years coaching leaders and organisations, much of it inside the particular chaos of family-run businesses. In this conversation, Chip and Fran trade stories from the front line, the emotional blackmail, the power grabs, the parking lot conversations where the real decisions get made. Chip explains the difference between a business built as an asset versus a legacy, and why hubris is the thing that kills family businesses from the inside. Along the way, he opens up about the stroke that reset his whole life, and how it led him from 200 nights a year in hotels to woodturning and writing. Fran shares her own hard years inside a dysfunctional family business, and the two find real common ground in how they've each had to rebuild after everything fell apart.

    We cover

The difference between a family business run as an asset versus a legacy
Why hubris and "believing your own bull" destroys family businesses
The unspoken rules and parking lot meetings that really run a company
What happens when private equity buys a family business
Chip's stroke, and how it became the reset that led him to writing and woodturning
The Second Mountain, moving from success to meaning and purpose
Fran's own experience inside a dysfunctional family business

    About Chip Scholz

Chip Scholz is an executive coach, author, speaker and craftsman who believes the best lives, like the best bowls, are shaped patiently, one careful decision at a time. After nearly 30 years coaching leaders and organisations, he's learned that meaningful change rarely happens all at once. He's the author of Small Decisions, Big Shifts, Every Dog Has Its Day, and Handoffs, a family business fable about leadership, succession and keeping your word. A stroke, several career reinventions, and years at a wood lathe have convinced him that craftsmanship isn't just about shaping wood, it's about shaping a life.

  • The Caged Voice: Helen von Dadelszen on Nerves, Charisma and Courageous Action

In this episode I'm joined by Helen von Dadelszen, communications and vocal coach based near Geneva, Switzerland, and author of Courageous Action. Helen takes us from her theatre-filled childhood in New Zealand, through years working in the humanitarian sector, to a lightbulb moment watching brilliant HIV researchers fail to communicate their groundbreaking work on an international stage. That moment shaped everything she does now.

We talk about why nerves aren't a red flag but a normal part of doing something that matters, what actually separates a confident communicator from an anxious one, and whether charisma can genuinely be taught. We also get into a properly thought-provoking discussion about why some of history's most dangerous communicators, and some of today's, are so effective, even when what they're saying isn't good, or true.

    We cover:

    • Growing up in a theatre family, and why never questioning nerves shaped Helen's whole relationship with performing
    • The moment watching brilliant researchers fail to land their message on an international stage that changed the direction of her career
    • What "audience-centric" communication actually means, and why it matters even more in multicultural, multilingual settings
    • Whether charisma can be taught, and the specific, learnable habits behind it
    • A frank conversation about why manipulative or dishonest communicators can still be deeply persuasive, and what that reveals about the power of delivery versus content
    • The hardest conversation Helen ever had to have, and what she'd do differently with hindsight
    • Her book, Courageous Action, and the one courageous step she'd encourage every listener to take this week

    About Helen
Helen von Dadelszen helps smart, thoughtful professionals get their brilliant ideas out of their heads and into the world with clarity, confidence and impact. She believes that confidence is built through action, not something we need to wait for before we speak, and that everyone has a unique way of communicating that can be strengthened, shaped and shared.

As a communication and vocal coach, Helen supports people who are doing valuable work but need help expressing their message in a way that feels authentic to them and clear, compelling and useful to their audience.

Helen is the founder of Present Potential Sàrl, where she provides practical training and coaching in public speaking, presentation skills, vocal presence and confident communication. She works with individuals, teams and organisations across technical, scientific, academic and humanitarian fields, helping them communicate complex, important ideas with greater clarity, authenticity and persuasive power.

She is also the author of Courageous Action: Your Playbook for Communicating Confidently, One Small Step at a Time, a hands-on guide designed to help people grow their communication confidence through practical, achievable steps.

Helen's work is strongly influenced by improvisational theatre. She uses improv principles to help clients become more present, responsive and comfortable with uncertainty, whether they are speaking on stage, contributing in meetings, answering questions or navigating high-pressure conversations.

Theatre and performance have always been an essential part of Helen's life. She is an active member of her local Toastmasters club, has chaired and won several European speech contests, and regularly performs with a local improvisational theatre troupe.

Originally from New Zealand and now based in Switzerland, Helen brings an international perspective to her work, along with a background in Human Resources, recruitment and large-scale event management. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and English Literature, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration endorsed in Human Resource Management, and a CELTA. Helen is also a Roger Love Method certified vocal coach and a facilitator of Collaborative Art team-building experiences.

  • Coercive Control: Christine Dillard on her 17 Year marriage, How to Leave and Why It's Not So Easy to Walk Away From Abuse

In this episode I'm joined by Christine Dillard, author of The Truth She Showed Me. Christine takes us back to the very first date that should have been a red flag, through 17 years of coercive control, and the three and a half year process it took to plan a safe exit while protecting her children. She's honest about the isolation, the moments that turned physical, and the devastating way her ex chose to reveal a family secret in front of their children the night she filed for divorce.

We talk about what coercive control actually looks like from the inside, the strategy behind her parenting plan, and why leaving doesn't mean it's over. It's a difficult, important conversation, and Christine's honesty throughout is remarkable.

    We cover:

    • The early red flags she now recognises, and why 23-year-old her didn't see them
    • The night isolation truly began, and how a single family dinner changed everything
    • What coercive control actually looks like day to day, financial control, isolation, walking on eggshells
    • The three and a half year process of planning a safe exit, and the parenting plan strategy she used to protect her children
    • The night she told him she was leaving, and the moment he chose to reveal a devastating family secret to their children
    • Why leaving doesn't mean it's over, and how she's still navigating boundaries years later
    • What she's learned from male survivors, and the particular shame men carry around abuse
    • Why she donates a book to a domestic violence organisation for every 20 sold, doubling that every October for DV Awareness Month

    About Christine
Christine Dillard is the author of The Truth She Showed Me, a memoir of her 17-year marriage and the process of discovering herself again after years of coercive control. • Widowed AF - No Body, No Closure: Rosie Moss on Loving Ben, Losing Him, and Building a Life After

In this episode I'm joined by Rosie Moss, host of the award-winning podcast Widowed AF and author of the bestselling book Widowed As F**k. Rosie was 37, with three children under 8, when her husband Ben went missing on a routine scuba dive off the coast of Dover and was never found. She takes us through the day the police arrived at her door, the agonising legal process of having Ben legally declared dead without a body, and the years since spent building one of the UK's most honest spaces for widowed people to talk.

We talk about widow's fire, the shame so many widowed people feel and rarely admit to, what it's really like parenting young children through this kind of loss, and Rosie's own remarriage to another widower and the divorce that followed. It's honest, it's funny in places, and it doesn't shy away from any of it.

    We cover:

    • The day Ben went missing
    • The legal fight to have Ben declared dead without a body, and why that mattered so much practically and emotionally
    • Widow's fire, and the shame so many widowed people carry around it
    • Parenting three young children through grief, and what she's learned about children's resilience
    • Remarrying another widower, blending families, and the divorce that followed
    • Building Widowed AF into an award-winning podcast and bestselling book, and what's next

    About Rosie

  • Armour Weight: Lisa Barwise on Burnout, Narcissistic Friendship and Coming Undone

In this episode I'm joined by Lisa Barwise, wellness alchemist, fitness feminist and bestselling author. Lisa takes us back to her edge-of-the-bed moment, the morning her legs simply gave out beneath her, and unpacks everything that had been quietly compounding underneath it. A narcissistic friendship with someone who was supposed to be like a sister to her. Unresolved grief, including losing both her parents by 22. A personal development organisation she'd been part of years earlier that turned out to be something far darker, and the strange, disorienting guilt of finding that out after the fact. And, running through all of it, what she calls Armour Weight™, the invisible load so many women carry without ever naming it.

We talk honestly about a subject that rarely gets airtime, narcissistic friendships, not partners or parents, and what it actually looked like living alongside someone else's teenage son for two years while trying to protect him from it. It's raw, it's funny in places, and it's the kind of conversation that might help you name something you've been carrying too.

    We cover:

    • The edge-of-the-bed moment, and what it actually felt like when her body said no
    • Armour Weight™, and Lisa's framework for understanding what women carry emotionally, energetically and even ancestrally
    • The narcissistic friendship that lasted over 20 years, the red flags she missed, and taking in her friend's teenage son when he needed somewhere safe to land
    • Losing both her parents by 22, and grief she didn't fully process until years later
    • Being part of a personal development organisation that was later revealed to be something much darker, and the survivor's guilt that came with finding out after she'd already left
    • The four "curses" Lisa's identified that keep women stuck, and how naming them changes everything
    • Her books, Unarmoured and Burned, and the Warrior Goddess Saga™ she's built around them

    About Lisa
Lisa Barwise is a Wellness Alchemist, Fitness Feminist, bestselling author, and founder of the Warrior Goddess Saga™. She is the creator of the Wellness Alchemy Triquetra™, a philosophy that weaves together biology, psychology and spirituality to help women make sense of their health, identity and transformation. Lisa has a unique gift for putting words to the complex, often invisible experiences of women in midlife, helping them understand what they've been feeling but could never quite explain. Through her books Unarmoured and Burned, she explores the hidden patterns that shape women's lives, from inherited beliefs and nervous system protection to what she calls Armour Weight™, the invisible weight women carry through stress, people-pleasing and survival. Blending science, storytelling and modern mythology, Lisa challenges conventional wellness advice and empowers women to understand themselves more deeply, reclaim their strength, and step into the next chapter of life with confidence, resilience and purpose.
