                      • The Purpose of Power: Pt. 2: The Pillars Of Power

Question Why: Why do we defer to traditional power?

What “Beware the Ides of March” means and what it teaches us about power and the curse of corruption.

What is traditional power (the six pillars of power) and why does it exist?

Understanding that power is not always a bad thing and how it can be used for good.

How individuals and the collective can both support and challenge traditional power when necessary.

Why I believe that individual and collective power, not traditional power will save us.

Pour the glass moment: What happens when institutions fail us? What do we do then?

Why we should talk about traditional power at our dinner table, and to anyone who will listen.

                      • The Purpose of Power: Pt. 1: The Power of Me

                        In this episode:
Yvette introduces the three-part series on power, focusing on individual, institutional, and collective power.

                        Question Why:

Why don’t we realize our power? Why don’t we use the power we have?

                        Three takeaways:
                        1. We each have the power to change the world.
                        2. What happens when we willingly obstruct
                        our view of the world?
                        3. Why this is a “go moment” —- a time
when we need everyone one of us using our power to impact those around us.
We were all taught that power is a big, bad word. It’s not. Power without purpose is destructive, and purpose without power is anemic.
Purpose and power go together, and can and should be used to change the world for the better.

Join Yvette as she shares the importance of pursuing your purpose, both for you and the world.

                        Episode Highlights:

Why is it easier to do the thing we think we are supposed to do instead of the thing we are called to do?

What I learned from a conversation with a friend who is looking to leave her job and start a business.

Why determining how to pursue your purpose is sometimes tougher than actually determining your purpose.

What we gain from sharing our purpose with someone else: The airport meet-up exercise.

When you determine your purpose, the universe conspires.

How to give yourself permission to pursue your purpose.

Fulfillment is on the other side of the room.

Achieving balance within ourselves and in the world.

Max Park and what he teaches us about purpose, balance, and being in position.

Why stepping into your purpose is not easy, but is necessary.

Know that your purpose is connected to others.

How to change course once you determine your purpose.

Tips on how to start pursuing your purpose:

                        1. Remember that your purpose is worth pursuing.

                        2. Commit to taking the purpose journey. Go back, forward, and then through.

                        3. Realize that it is a long game, but it’s worth it.

                        4. Best,

In this episode, Yvette explores the topic of love. Why self-love is universal love. The foundation of external love and the first step of the purpose journey.

                          Episode Highlights:

Why is it so hard to love ourselves? Why does it matter?

What the show “Survival of the Thickest” reminded me about the power of loving myself, as myself.

Why loving yourself is the foundation of external love, whether personal or romantic.

How would you answer the question: Do you love yourself?

How I learned to love myself and why that is a daily journey. Why is love a motivating force in my life?

Why India Arie was right when she said, “The most powerful energy in the universe is love.”

Loving yourself, as yourself, is the first step in the purpose journey.

Why it is important to “Shine” and how loving yourself helps you shine.

Loving yourself is the key to peace, balance, and fulfillment.

Why you should create an affirmation practice using the word “love.”

Countering the false, negative thoughts that you have about yourself and replacing those with true and positive words that describe you.

Why what people have to say about you is none of your business.

Give yourself permission to love yourself. Know that you are worthy of love.

Love yourself this month. Don’t wait for someone to show you love.

Why knowing how you want to be loved is key to teaching others how to love you.

Through my journeys, I have learned that what matters comes down to three things purpose, power, and asking the question why.

In this podcast series, we are going to talk about power. What is power? What happens when we use the power that we have? We are going to talk about institutional power. We also are going to talk about individual power, but honestly, the one that I love the most is the power of "we", our collective power, the power that we all have when we come together and we work together.

We are also going to talk about purpose, what it means to leave a legacy, and what that means to you.

I hope that through these conversations you become more curious. more inspired and you use your power to ask more questions and change the world around you.
