Robert’s musical expedition began in middle school when he picked up the trumpet and joined the school band. Though he enjoyed playing, it was the deeper connection to music itself that truly captivated him. He always wanted to know what other instruments were playing and how they were intertwined to create bespoke symphonic passages. His love for music deepened further in high school when he discovered he had perfect pitch, which solidified his path in composition. This revelation led him to study music at Louisiana State University, where he earned a B.M. in Music Composition and a B.A. Experimental Music & Digital Media.
While Robert’s early virtuosic performance was on trumpet, he soon gravitated toward the piano, a more versatile tool for his composing. While still in school, his passion for film scores grew as he admired how music could enhance the depth of a story just with the presence of one ostinato or drone, for example. Robert’s goal became clear: to craft his own music that would evoke the same powerful personalities.
As a composer, Robert approaches every piece as a narrative, whether it’s chamber music, electro-acoustic works, or large ensemble pieces. His works, such as Elysian Stairway and Spring Fling, have been featured in notable competitions, including LSU’s Call for Scores and the Score Relief Film Composer Competition in the UK. However, Robert’s exploration didn’t stop there.
In recent years, he shifted his focus to video game music, seeking to understand how music adapts to interactive experiences. His compositions like Withered Bastion and Bosco Verticale, blend sound design and atmosphere to draw players into immersive worlds.
Despite challenges in navigating the rapidly changing media landscape, Robert remains committed to his mission: to compose “Melodies with Meaning.” For him, music is more than just sound; it’s an experience that connects the media with the listeners by telling an audible narrative. With each composition, Robert continues to move closer to his goal of creating life-long, impactful, and most importantly, memorable music.
