The process of becoming spiritual begins with our obedience to the natural truths we receive from doctrine. This stage is characterised by struggles because, our hearts are not yet converted, i.e., the desires of our hearts are contrary to that of the Word. This is what is represented in the scriptures as life under the fig tree. At this stage, the one who must deny himself by obeying the natural truth feels alone, though the Lord is present. Divine providence permits it to be so in order to preserve the “free will” of the person. Yet, because the Lord is present in our struggles, He told Nathaniel that He saw him when he was under the fig tree.
In the message, “The Principle Of The Fig Tree”, Pastor Jeffrey Walter describes the likelihood of despair that faces the person labouring with the natural truth in order to be spiritual. He admonishes us to keep fighting, knowing that the Lord is with us in our struggles, though it will not be apparent to us.
This message, a reassurance of the Lord’s help in our strive against evils, will arm you to not give up.
