In this week’s episode, we discuss what is our most controversial topic to date, sex work. Annaig describes the attacks against the survivor-led protest against prostitution and pornography in Paris and then explains the issues of the so-called “oldest profession in the world”. We discuss the difficult issue of differentiating between the people and women who choose to join this trade and those who have no choice. We read the story, brilliantly told by Emily Eveland of her experience of ‘choosing’ sex work and realise the horrors experienced by those in the sex industry. We then take a look at the statistics of violence and murder against women in the sex trade and how this is a clear violation of human rights. Annaig also takes a look at Ruth Breslin’s study of the three main components that make up prostitution and we listen to a story of a victim of this institution.
