“If you’re relevant you’ll survive, if you’re irrelevant you’ll go under, regardless of where we are the economic cycle. There are plenty of businesses started during a recession that go on to be successful.”
Not my words, but those of our guest today, Philip Bain co-founder of Shred Bank. Philip began the business on the eve of the global credit crunch. 9 years later the business is going from strength to strength. He’s also written a book “Start to Grow” about building a business. He says the fundamental lessons he’s learned can be applied to any sector. Listen in and see if you agree.
Also on the programme, this will get your heart racing; using your pulse as your password. We’ll be looking at the Belfast company working on the next frontier of bio-metric security. Forget fingerprints and voice recognition, your heartbeat is unique to you and is nearly impossible to replicate. B-Secur is piloting its heart identification technology at an airport, where security access to sensitive areas is paramount. They’re also talking to banks and companies in the automotive sector. (Imagine a chip installed in your car that recognises the pulse in your fingertip. No need for keys.)
Our start-up is Point Energy. They’re one of the last 12 in the Science Park’s INVENT competition which aims to showcase some of the best start-ups in Northern Ireland. Point Energy has developed a product for the manufacturing industry to monitor and track their energy usage, to reduce cost. (Who doesn’t like the sound of that!)
