In 2 weeks Rev. Gregory L. Clarke, well known and prominent pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama is scheduled to report to the Bureau of Prisons.
The crime he’s been convicted of is tax fraud.
In July 2007, Clarke was sentenced to 21 months in prison and ordered to pay $35,684 in restitution.
Much of the money in question is classified as “gifts or love offerings” and is a standard occurrence in churches across the country. Especially in African American churches.
