Today’s episode is a special one because, for the first time in the history of this podcast, we’re joined by a coach currently working with an MLS first team.

Our guest is Elliot Prost, assistant coach with the Colorado Rapids. His soccer journey takes us from the youth fields of France, through professional football, college soccer in the United States, player development, elite academies, and ultimately to the highest level of the American game.

Elliot joined the Colorado Rapids first-team technical staff in November 2021. Before moving into his current role, he spent four seasons within the Rapids Academy as head coach of the U17 and U18 age groups. He also served as technical lead for the Audi Online Program and helped oversee training methodology throughout the academy.

Elliot’s coaching career spans more than eight years and includes roles as a collegiate assistant coach at Fort Lewis College, Technical Director with Rush Soccer, Director of Coaching at Colorado Rush, and coach and phase lead at IMG Academy. He has coached at the USL League Two, Development Academy, and MLS NEXT levels, helping teams achieve State Cup success, playoff berths, and strong player development.

What makes Elliot especially interesting for this conversation is that he understands player development from both sides — as a coach and as a former player.

Originally from Nevers, France, Elliot began playing with his hometown club, Nevers FC, before joining Dijon Football Côte d’Or and its professional residential academy. Between the ages of 14 and 19, he competed at the highest levels of youth football in France and also played with the reserve team in the French fourth tier.

In 2007, he represented France at the UNSS World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.

In 2011, Elliot moved to the United States to continue his playing career and education. He played NCAA Division II soccer at Fort Lewis College, graduating in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology specializing in athlete performance.

His playing career continued in the USL and PDL with FC Tucson, Albuquerque Sol, and Oklahoma Energy.

That combination of playing experience, psychology, education, academy coaching, and elite player development has helped shape the coach Elliot is today.

His commitment to learning has continued throughout his career. In 2023, Elliot participated in the Elite Formation Coaching License program, developed in partnership between Major League Soccer and the French Football Federation. He earned the prestigious diploma in 2024 and also holds a USSF A License.

Today, we’re going behind the scenes to learn what it takes to work with professional players at the MLS level.

We’ll talk about Elliot’s journey from France to the United States, the lessons he learned as a player, how those experiences shaped his coaching philosophy, the transition from academy soccer to the MLS first team, and what player development really looks like at the professional level.
