ProPresenter Tutorial: Adding a third monitor to your Mac

There are a few Macs that come with the ability to have three displays (either three external displays or as with some models of the iMac or some models of the MacBook Pro, the internal display and two externals).

For the rest of the line, you’re going to need a USB to display adapter. Luckily (or by divine providence), I’ve found one that adapts from USB to either VGA, HDMI, or DVI. Unless you have an SDI system, that should work for you, and if you do, you can go with an adapter to make HDMI into SDI.

I’ve been using the Diamond MUltimedia HD USB to DVI adapter (Amazon affiliate link: http://trinitydigitialmedia.com/propresenterusb) since January, with excellent results. What’s great is that it’s only about $30.

The downside is that it doesn’t come with the Mac driver. I have found it and made a short link for you, though. Here it is: http://trinitydigitalmedia.com/diamondmmosx.

You’ll need to install the driver, plug everything in and make sure it shows up in System Preferences>Displays. As long as it does, you can go into the preferences in ProPresenter and drag “SD” over to it.

ProPresenter 5 & ProPresenter 6 Tutorials: Third-party hardware remotes | ChurchTechCast.com Screencast show

I get this question fairly often. “What third-party hardware (not software) remote works with ProPresenter?”

So, while I was freelancing at a local hotel, I tested out the two models that they had.

I was pleased to learn that the Logitech R400 and Targus AMP16US-52 both seem to work fine.

I didn’t test distance, but the R400 claims to work over a longer distance than the Targus, so take that with a grain of salt.

More than once I’ve had people ask me if there was a way to show videos on the stage display or easily switch between stage display layouts. With ProPresenter 5, neither was possible without some hackery.

That all changed with ProPresenter 6.

ProPresenter 6 Tutorial: The Scheduler

This is perhaps, the most requested ProPresenter feature. Today, I’ll show you how to use it.

What’s great about this feature is that if you use the countdown feature in ProPresenter, it will use the same clock for the countdown and the scheduler, so the countdown can end when the first element starts, etc.

Just go to the scheduler icon on the toolbar and add a scheduler item. Choose your playlist and the item in the playlist that you want to schedule. Use the date and time you choose and then select whether you want to repeat the scheduler and how often.

You could use this to start a preservice loop every week, start a digital signage script, or just start church on time every time.

ProPresenter 6 Tutorial: The Remote App

If you’ve seen ProPresenter 6, you might wonder how the pastor would control the telestrator if the computer is in the tech booth, the answer is the ProPresenter 6 Remote App.

The new version of the app allows you to not only control the advancing of slides, the addition of messages, countdowns and their removal, but also add the ability to control the telestrator function.

The telestrator remote is an additional $4.99, but if your pastor wants to use it, it’s worth the money not to have to find another way to do it.

ProPresenter 6 tutorials: Telestrator

The telestrator is a feature that allows you (or the pastor) to draw, point to, or highlight certain things on the screen in ProPresenter 6.

Let’s say your pastor likes putting up maps of events in the Bible. With this feature, he or she could draw to highlight the route, point to it with a virtual laser pointer, circle things, or even use a virtual flashlight to highlight a portion of the image.

Additionally, this could be done from the ProPresenter remote (now available for Android, too).

ProPresenter 6 Tutorial: Bulleted lists, fill in the blanks, and element transitions

When ProPresenter 5 was released, the folk at Renewed Vision gave us two new tools. For years, we’d faked, bulleted list reveals and fill-in-the blanks with various means. Now, it was possible to do it natively.

With the arrival of ProPresenter 6, we can now animate individual elements of a slide with element transitions.

In ProPresenter, there are various layers. The bottom most is the live video layer, next comes the foreground video layer, then backgrounds, slides, props, masks, and finally corner pinning. On the slides layer, you can have various elements which can be placed in multiple layers themselves.

Whenever something is persistent, no matter what you do to the slides layer, look at the props or mask layer.

Keep in mind that it’s possible to put live video in the props layer or a background in the foreground video layer, so just because you’d expect a certain piece of media to live on one layer, that doesn’t mean that someone hasn’t put it somewhere else.
