    Proverbs 22:26–27-Be not one of those who give pledges, who put up security for debts. If you have nothing with which to pay, why should your bed be taken from under you?  

    - Define Terms:    

     - "Pledges" Join hands in a pledge, formally, clap hands, as a gesture to ratify a bargain (Pr 6:1; 17:18; 22:26); Put up a security, formally, hands be struck (Job 17:3, Note: this may have been like a hearty handshake, or possibly some other unknown action of joining the hands.   - Wisdom Says:      - Do not make agreements that you cannot fulfill.      - If you do not have the money to purchase and item you should restrain from that purchase. Why? "If you have nothing with which to pay, why should your bed be taken from under you?"    

      - Question:         

     - What should you do if you find yourself in this position?              

    - Proverbs 6:1-5-"My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, have given your pledge for a stranger, if you are snared in the words of your mouth, caught in the words of your mouth, then do this, my son, and save yourself, for you have come into the hand of your neighbor: go, hasten, and plead urgently with your neighbor. Give your eyes no sleep and your eyelids no slumber; save yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the hand of the fowler."             

    - Proverbs 26:15-"Whoever puts up security for a stranger will surely suffer harm, but he who hates striking hands in pledge is secure."            

     - Proverbs 17:18-"One who lacks sense gives a pledge and puts up security in the presence of his neighbor."

  • Proverbs with Edwin: Proverbs 21-The Fate of the wicked

    Wicked-Unrighteous, i.e., pertaining to being evil, with a focus on the guilt of violating a standard (2Sa 4:11); 2. guilty, i.e., pertaining to being legally not innocent of a violation of law (Ps 109:7)


    - Proverbs 21:4-Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin. 

    - Proverbs 21:The violence of the wicked will sweep them away, because they refuse to do what is just. 

    - Proverbs 21:10-The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes. 

    - Proverbs 21:12-The Righteous One observes the house of the wicked; he throws the wicked down to ruin. 

    - Proverbs 21:18-The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, and the traitor for the upright. 

    - Proverbs 21:27–The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent. 

    - Proverbs 21:29-A wicked man puts on a bold face, but the upright gives thought to his ways.

    Proverbs 20:3- It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling 

    - There are two people here:      

    - One keeps away from strife (Wisdom)     

    - The other is always in a hostile dispute (Foolish)    

     - One conducts himself respectfully/with honor (Wisdom)     

     - The conducts himself with dishonor (Foolish)    

     - One seems to be characterized by honor (Wisdom)    

     - The other seems to be characterized by dishonor (Foolish) 

    At the core of these two men, there seems to be a radical difference. They have completely different ends.

    Brief Outline 

    • Terms:

      • Understanding:
      The fool takes no pleasure in wisdom and insight, a capacity for discerning a right course of action.

      Opinion:
      heart, i.e., the blood pumping organ of the body, mind, soul, spirit, self, i.e., the source of life of the inner person in various aspects, with a focus on feelings, thoughts, volition, and other areas of the inner life.

      {KJV} Proverbs 18:2-A fool hath no delight in understanding, But that his heart may discover itself.
      The fool is not interested in looking outside of himself but he is only interested in looking within.
    • Questions:
      • Why doesn't the fool take pleasure in understanding?
      Why does he only take pleasure in expressing his own opinion (or his own heart)?
      What does the bible have to say about the heart of man?
    • Answer:
      • The fool takes no pleasure in receiving wisdom and insight and would rather express his opinion because he is full of his own pride.
      To him all the answers of life are within Himself. In other words, he is his own god. All revelation is within and not outward.
      The problem is that the fool does not understand that his heart (his entire being-His mind, soul, spirit, his inner person) is decetful above all else.

      1. The Purpose of Proverbs 

        2. Proverbs 1:1-7-

        1The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:

        2To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight,

        3to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;

        4to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth—

        5Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,

        6to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles.

        7The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.


        What is Wisdom?

        "Wisdom is a moral rather than an intellectual quality. To be “foolish” is to be godless (Ps. 14:1; comp. Judg. 19:23; 2 Sam. 13:13). True wisdom is a gift from God to those who ask it (Job 28:12–28; Prov. 3:13–18; Rom. 1:22; 16:27; 1 Cor. 1:17–21; 2:6–8; James 1:5). “Wisdom” in Prov. 1:20; 8:1; 9:1–5 may be regarded not as a mere personification of the attribute of wisdom, but as a divine person, “Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God” (1 Cor. 1:24). In Matt. 11:19 it is the personified principle of wisdom that is meant." 


        V.2- "To know wisdom"

        • Proverbs 4:5–7-"Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight."
        • Proverbs 7:4-5-"Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words."
        • Proverbs 8:5-"O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense."
        • Proverbs 16:16-"How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver."
