Tami is a survivor and advocate of a rare inflammatory breast disease called granulomatous mastitis (GM), which affects about two in 100,000 women. Tami shares her personal journey with the disease, the challenges she faced, and the solutions that worked for her.

Tami contracted GM from a bacteria she believes she got from a hotel shower during a business trip. She has undergone several treatments and surgeries and is now in remission. She is passionate about raising awareness and educating others about the condition. Her book, Diagnosis Detective: Curating Granulomatous Mastitis, provides guidance and information for other women who have the disease or want to learn more about it.

In this episode, Rusty and Tami talk about the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of GM. They also delve into the local music scene, East Palestine, train derailments, Cincinnati chili, and Cincinnati Reds. Tami shares her writing style and how she differentiates her work from robot-written content.

GM is a condition that causes inflammation, lumps, abscesses, pain, and deformity in the breast. It can be divided into two categories: sterile and non-sterile. Sterile GM has no identifiable cause, while non-sterile GM is caused by an infection from bacteria or fungi. Some possible sources of infection are contaminated water, soil, sewer, or breastfeeding. GM can be diagnosed by a biopsy and treated with antibiotics, steroids, surgery, or natural therapies.
