Episode 26: The Punisher: Ultrarunning with Ryan Dexter
On this episode, we talk with Ryan "The Punisher" Dexter about his background, how he got into Ultrarunning and training to go further than you ever thought possible. Even if you're not a runner, or maybe you're not the fastest or maybe you've never done a marathon, this episode is still for you. With any endeavor in life, it starts with our mindset...what The Punisher calls planting "The Maybe Seed." Ryan talks about his journey from his first 5k running around a lake to when it all clicked for him. Though he may have never been the fastest, he always thought "Maybe" in the back of his mind which led him to finding ultras.
The Dudeologist talk with The Punisher about how regular dudes can open their minds to possibility that they too can do big things. For The Punisher, that thing was Ultramarathons. If you are not familiar with Ultramarathons, its any race longer than a marathon, but for The Punisher, it meant 150 and 200 mile races. The Punisher has done all kinds of Ultramarathons including the McNaughton, the Frozen Otter, the Barkley and many others. He is best known for his attempts and eventual winning of the McNaughton, a race David Goggins also won and set the course record, a year The Punisher finished second (Jump on Youtube and look up David Goggins Human Machine). However, in 2009, The Punisher returned and finished in first place
Today, with more than 80 marathons and ultra races under his belt, Ryan "The Punisher" Dexter lives in Florida and still enjoys running and being active with his family. We hope this episode inspires you to set lofty goals and open your mind to all kinds of possibilities. Plant The Maybe Seed, sign up for an event, train hard and go do it!
