In this installment, we're stoked to have Jason Lamb, the accomplished writer of the groundbreaking book "No Means No: From Obscurity to Oblivion – An Oral History." Hailing from the punk-rich city of Victoria, BC, Canada, Jason brings a unique perspective shaped by his background in stand-up comedy and broadcast journalism. But that's not all – Jason is not just an author; he's also the mastermind behind "The Punk Show on the Zone," a radio program that pulses with the raw energy of punk music. In this episode, we'll uncover the story behind Jason's journey into the punk rock scene and how his experiences in comedy and journalism converged into this fascinating book project. Our focus, of course, is the legendary Canadian punk band NoMeansNo, formed in 1979 by the enigmatic brothers Rob and John Wright. NoMeansNo is synonymous with an anti-authoritarian ethos, encapsulated in their name, challenging the prevailing norms with a sound that defies categorization. Today we talk to Joe Sib a punk rock musician, record label owner and amazing comedian. Growing up in Santa Cruz during the late 1960s and 1970s, he was around for the early days of punk rock. Joe talks about how he got into punk, going to his first shows, meeting new friends in the scene and ultimately joining his first band. Our episode will go over his entire musical career. In additional to playing music, he started co-founded the independent record label SideOneDummy Records, which he established in 1995 with his friend Bill Armstrong. The label has released albums by notable punk and alternative rock bands such as Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. Finally, we get into Joe’s comedy career and how he has established himself as a highly regarded standup constantly touring nationally. Sit back, grab a beverage and enjoy this wild ride!
