Beyond her caregiving duties, Nadine has also taken on the role of a local business owner, further embedding herself in the fabric of the Arizona community. Her story is one of strength, sacrifice, and unwavering love—a testament to the resilience of individuals who find themselves unexpectedly thrust into the role of caregiver. Nadine's journey reflects the profound impact that compassion and familial bonds can have, even in the face of life's unexpected challenges.

After working as a librarian for 7 years, Anamaria worked as a therapy tech while earning an Associate’s in Exercise Science and becoming a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. She worked as a personal caregiver for a year and continues to work with individuals with neurological conditions. She is the daughter of a retired pain management nurse and daughter-in-law of a retired nurse and nurse educator. 

She is motivated by her own struggles with anxiety to help others maintain their quality of life and utilizes strategies she has learned from mental health therapists as well as physical, occupational, music and speech therapists.

Dr. Elton Bordenave, PhD, MEd is the Director of the Center for Resilience in Aging at A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona. In this episode we discuss one of their many programs offered for older adults and their care team. Dr. Bordenave explains how the program was developed, the research and grant funding to support operations and how they support older adults living within the community offering FREE services designed by clinicians and managed by an interdisciplinary team of students.

A safe transfer means moving the person under your care from one place to another. If they are bedridden, they may be independent (needing minimal help) or totally dependent. They may be able to do rehabilitation exercises by moving to a chair. A safe transfer also takes the pressure off the skin and keeps blood flowing. A bedridden person's risk for bedsores and blood clots is lower if he or she moves often.
