On today's PoM Podcast episode I sat down with Paul Pettit, a multi-published author and Dallas Theological Seminary teacher to discuss his latest book, "A Courageous Identity: Accepting the Call of Christ-Centered Masculinity."
What does it really mean to be a man of faith? It’s not about being perfect. It’s about becoming increasingly effective in the daily roles of husband, dad, friend, and worker.
In a culture that often distorts masculinity, Paul points men back to God’s original design, reminding them that becoming a godly man is not about perfection but about daily progress, brotherhood, and surrendering to God’s shaping hand. His new book, A Courageous Identity, is a guide for men who want to grow in faith, maturity, and purpose as they walk shoulder to shoulder with others. He encourages men to reject passivity, embrace responsibility, and live with courage, offering a roadmap for those seeking purpose and impact.

On today's PoM podcast we are going to continue our conversation about what it means to "Burn The Ships" in our life and talk about Burning The Ship of Our Old Identity.
The person you used to be.
The person you were told you were.
The person you became because of your failures.
The person you became because of your wounds.
The person you became because of your past.
We all have this tension, but here's the problem:
Jesus didn't die to make you a slightly improved version of your old identity.
He died and rose again to make you new.

Burn the Ships. It's an old phrase, but it's a powerful one.
The basic idea is simple: If you want to move forward, sometimes you have to eliminate your ability to escape.
You've got to burn the ships. You've got to remove the escape route.
You've got to stop keeping one foot in the old life while trying to walk into the new one.
And for the Christian man, that's an incredibly important concept.

How much of what occupied your mind wasn't actually yours to deal with? How much mental or relational energy did you waste on things that didn't matter today?
Someone else's political opinion that made your blood pressure spike. A stranger's marriage falling apart in the comments section. A headline about something four states away you have zero ability to affect.
Now ask the harder question: how much time did your actual purpose from the Lord get yesterday; your wife, your kids, your work, your walk with God? I'd bet for most of us, if we're honest, the math doesn't favor what's actually ours.
On today's PoM podcast episode we are going to continue our walk though 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 and focus on the second phrase in the verse: "mind your own affairs."

Nearly every man either carries or is closely connected to a device that constantly asks him: what do you think? What's happening? Are you watching? How will you respond or react?
It's not just that we're being notified constantly, there is a whole infrastructure of daily life built to cost you something. Miss the news cycle and you feel behind. Don't react to the thing everyone's reacting to and you feel disconnected. Post nothing for a week and some part of you wonders if you still exist to the people who used to see you.
On today's podcast we are going to dive into the word "Quietly" from Paul's charge on what sort of life we should. Once we understand that it is our ambition to live quietly, and what that looks like practically we can see how much energy and time we are allowing to things that really don't matter.

Daily every man is constantly making a choice:
• What will I believe?
• Who will influence me?
• How will I spend my time?
• What will I allow into my home?
• What kind of husband and father will I be?
• Will I pursue comfort or conviction?
Every choice we make is taking us somewhere.
On today's podcast we are going to let Jeremiah 6:16 be our guide as we walk though what it looks like to start again at mile zero.
Jeremiah's message challenges us as men to look beyond the newest, easiest, or most popular direction.

Make it your ambition. We don't put those two words next to each other. Ambition means you're building something loud, a name, a platform, a business, a reputation. Quiet is what you get accused of when you're not doing enough of that.
As we have this conversation I want us to consider: "What does a quiet life actually build, over twenty or thirty years, that the loud life never quite manages to?"

There is nothing wrong with influence.
There is nothing wrong with having a large platform.
There is nothing wrong with being known.
There is nothing wrong with being gifted.
The problem comes when the platform becomes more important than the message.
When the messenger becomes more important than the Gospel.
When people come to church because they want to see someone rather than because they want to encounter God.
When we start building ministries around personalities instead of building people around Christ.

On today's PoM podcast I am going to share some of the things I have learned when it comes to creating communities with men and the challenges to get them to be consistent.
Consistency is not flashy. It doesn’t post well on social media. But it is the difference between a man who talks about faithfulness and a man who becomes faithful.
Paul told Timothy to “practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress” (1 Timothy 4:15). Progress is visible only when the practice is consistent. A single day of prayer is good. A decade of daily prayer forms a man who can weather storms without losing his footing.
A consistent man becomes trustworthy. His word carries weight. His family knows what to expect from him. God uses consistent men because they can be counted on when the assignment is long and the applause is gone
