Who tells our stories, whose stories get remembered and what are we leaving behind for the people who come after us?In Episode 3 of "The Q by QnotesCarolinas," Liz Schob, Vanna Vanity and Chann Little explore those questions as we recognize LGBTQ+ History Month and National Coming Out Day.We begin inside Invisible Histories, where co-founders Joshua Burford and Maigen Sullivan, PhD, take us through an archive preserving pieces of LGBTQ+ life across the South, from photographs and newspapers to flyers, Pride programs and the everyday things people decided were worth saving. Then, with Halloween right around the corner, Vanna lightens things up for this month's Arts & Culture segment with makeup artist Daniel Sexton. Daniel demonstrates fun Halloween makeup looks while sharing tips and tricks along the way.Liz sits down with Joshua Burford and Maigen Sullivan, PhD, in the studio for a deeper conversation about how LGBTQ+ history is preserved, whose stories have been overlooked, what we've already lost and what future generations may learn from the history we're creating right now.Liz and Vanna also welcome Cameron Pruette, executive director of the Freedom Center for Social Justice, to the table for a conversation about the upcoming election, what LGBTQ+ North Carolinians should know before casting their ballots and how the choices we're making today can shape what comes next. And Chann closes out the episode with another Good News Corner, celebrating three milestones in LGBTQ+ life across the South: Greensboro Pride bringing a Pride parade back downtown, Georgia electing its first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress and Equality North Carolina marking 47 years of advocacy.Produced for Qnotes by Bobby Kerns Productions, "The Q by QnotesCarolinas" brings you the news, conversations, culture and people shaping LGBTQ+ life across the Carolinas.CONNECT WITH QNOTESWebsite: QnotesCarolinas.comFollow Qnotes on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, BlueSky and LinkedIn.Subscribe to "The Q by QnotesCarolinas" so you never miss an episode."THE Q BY QNOTESCAROLINAS"Hosts: Liz Schob, Chann Little, Vanna VanityFeatured Guests: Daniel Sexton, Makeup Artist; Joshua Burford, Co-Founder & Co-Executive Director, Invisible Histories; Maigen Sullivan, PhD, Co-Founder & Co-Executive Director, Invisible Histories; Cameron Pruette, Executive Director, Freedom Center for Social JusticeProduced for Qnotes by Bobby Kerns Productions Executive Producer: Jim YarbroughProducer: Liz SchobWriters: Liz Schob, Chann LittleEditors: Bobby Kerns Productions, Liz SchobPhotography: Bobby Kerns ProductionsHair & Makeup: Christopher BooherEPISODE SPONSORSWhite RabbitGemini Property ManagementQnotes has been telling the stories of LGBTQ+ communities across North and South Carolina for more than 40 years. What does it mean to belong, and how can connection, culture and community shape our well-being?
In Episode 2 of The Q by QnotesCarolinas, Liz Schob, Vanna Vanity and Chann Little explore those questions as we recognize National Suicide Prevention Month and the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Vanna takes us behind the scenes at Charlotte Pride with Lolita Chanel and Oso Chanel of LOC Productions. We get to know the queer Latin duo behind LOC, talk culture, drag, representation and community, and see them take the stage during Latin Hour. Then, Liz sits down with Charlotte psychologist Dr. Holly Savoy for a conversation about mental health in the LGBTQ+ community, how to recognize when someone may be struggling, how to start difficult conversations and what meaningful support can actually look like.
Plus, Liz, Vanna and Chann catch up on some of the stories Qnotes has been following across the Carolinas, including a new queer space coming to North Charleston, a Huntersville wedding venue that declined to host a same-sex couple and proposed changes to voting in North Carolina. And Chann reminds us that our community is about more than the difficult stories with another Good News Corner.
